I have not touched the tuning yet, just played it out of the box. It sounds amazing.
Although it looks like they put the strainer on the wrong side... :(
So I'll have to call up L & M tomorrow about that.

Oh man does that look nice. How much did that cost? Im interested in either buying or making a new snare, and i could add this to the list of possibilities.

Costed like...1300 or so Canadian dollars.
I'm pretty sure you can't order these anymore, they are limited edition.
Some stores may have one in stock though, so if you really want one, you would have to phone around.

Well, I believe someone once said 'If you have to ask how much something costs, you can't afford it'
Great snare.

Some stores indeed have them, I saw one at West Coast Drum Center this week (priced at US$1,100) and at Ontario Music a little east of L.A. (didn't catch the price there.)
They're definitely not the most expensive snares out there though, and they are really nice drums.

Bernhard
And shell!
If im not mistaken, Dunnett came out with titanium shells and then produced a bunch for Ludwig.

Wes, I believe this is a special edition/limited offer drum, am I right, or just terrebly wrong?
I think I read about it somewhere. Gotta love that Ludwig badge.
If I am not mistaken, that case comes with the ''deal'', right? I must say: I am envious! That snare looks like THE snare! Take good care of it man!

Your Supra is the standard model.
This one is a limited edition titanium model.

Are you saying the strainer is on the wrong side because the badge faces you?

I've looked at it some more (along with comparing it with others).
It seems they put the badge in the wrong spot.

Maybe it will become more of a collectors item because of it.

I'd hope so. :p
Here are some pictures of the adjustable air vent.

I was suprised at the difference it can make between open and closed.

It even has an old style internal muffler :-0
Nice snare (excellent piece of collection) but I dont think it deserve the 1300$ cdn value. Good if you can afford it but I would better myself get two or three different snare for this price.
Still, CONGRATS !

And this is also Ronn Dunnett!!!!
I really must say, that on my Dunnett-snare I really have a hardtime to work out the difference between open and closed. In Sound i have no big difference - perhaps mostly the feel of difference. But another thing: the rebound of the sticks changes, if the air vent ist closed or open.

I think the biggest difference between open and closed is the responsiveness of the snare.

My friend, who has been a Ludwig Dealer going on 47 years, currently has one in his shop that also has the strainer on the "wrong side."
It too comes with a sweet case............

Interesting, it's an odd spot to put the badge, or I think it is anyways.

Dom, when you place a Ludwig Supra-Phonic, or Acrolite for that matter, in a stand with the Badge facing forward the Strainer / Throw-off lever will be on your left when sitting behind the Kit. With the Chief it's on the right. When I first saw the snare (The Chief) I thought something was a bit "odd" and quickly found that it was the Badge placement that had me thinking this way........................
Here's a shot of one of my Supra-Phonic's, which will better illustrate what we are talking about...................

Wow, it looks fantastic, but being close to 2 grand here in australia, i doubt there is much of a market for them. Considering almost buy a full DW shell pack for that, or buy two tama warlord snares.
But be proud, and dont take care of! Give it hell and see if it is really titanium hard!

That's a really nice piece of drum. What set do you play along with that?

A set where this snare looks out of place.
Way way way, out of place. ;)

Wow, i definitely would have bought better drums first. But hey, those are pretty rare snares. Bet it sounds amazing and good choice with Ludwig.
