Evans G2 coated or Remo Ambassadors coated on Sonor 3005?

Hey,

question should be clear. I´m playing a Sonor 3005 drumset and i really need some new heads. At the moment i have Remo Pinstripe on the 10 and 12 tomtom and stock heads on the 13, 16 toms.

I´m still thinking about, which heads to buy...Evans G2 coated or Remo Ambassadors coated ?

Evans G2 all the way. I love these heads. I used to be a Remo guy before I tried Evans products and the quality seems to be superior with Evans. I currently use the coated G2 heads on all of my toms and love the warm, round tones it provides. These particular heads are the sound and feel I had always been hunting for. I would try a Genera Dry or HD Dry for your snare drum. Remo's coating seems to wear a lot quicker.

Why not buy one of each for your hardest to tune tom, and decide for yourself????

Since I play a 3005 here is my advice. Clear Emperors over Clear Ambassadors. These heads are the perfect heads for these kits. I've tried almost everything out there and the Clear Emperors just seem to work best. Results could be different for you since we all hear things differently but Clear Emperors are where it's at for me.

They last longer than Evans, they don't lose their tone as quick as Evans, they don't sound as plasticy as Evans, they tune up easier, and they cost much less.

Give them a try, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Ok now i have to decide between Evans G2 and Remo Emperor.
Remos are much cheaper...

Would you take coated or clear ones?

Most definitely Clear. I like the open resonance they provide. I had a hell of a time with coated heads on the Force 3005. They just wouldn't sound good no matter what I tried. Tuning low, tuning high, medium, batter tighter than resonant, resonant higher than batter and they just wouldn't sound right. They almost sound restricted and choked off with very weird overtones. Since putting Clear Emperors on they sound like a million bucks.

I was able to make the kit sound FANTASTIC with the stock heads which are clear, then went to coated and they sounded horrible, now I'm back to clear heads and they sound amazing again.

I have used coated emperors for about 75% of the 20 years I have played. I hit hard when needed and they last.

Evans G2 Coated on top opf Evans G1 coated. You will get a nice warm, focused sound. Im not a fan of clear anymore because of the plasticy feel, but try it out!

I'll say it again.......Listen for yourself.....dude come'on......A 10" head costs what $8-12.......buy both and decide....

Your asking for peoples opinions that really don't matter....we all hear and like different things....plus there are too many variables, room acoustics, tuning, shell edges, etc.

I have had coated G2's....sounded terrible, used them on a different kit...sounded great....

You get the point....

I have G2's on the drum kit at my guitar players house. They sound good. I stated a couple of spots up that I have used coated emperors for 75% of 20 years. I like the feel of the emperors much better. May be that I was used to them. G2"s just seems like there is something missing. Also there is standard emperors and smooth coated. I prefer the standard. Its a feel thing w/me I guess.

Thats really the best way to find my personal heads for my room and my set.

Actually before I put on G2 coated (7 months now) I used G2 clear for 1 year. They made the kit sound great but the feel was just something I still havent got used to. Sounds kinda weird. I am going to switch back to coated emperors.

I changed the stockhedas on my sonor 3003 to coated g2 batter & clear g1 as reso, it REALLY change the feel and sound on the drum. I don´t think you could go wrong with remo coated emperor batter w/ clear ambassador reso neither. Try coated 2 ply, it will give the drum warmth and a very deep tone.

I used studio-x on my 3005, sounded killer....

g2's are a good choice too......I love single ply heads, but durability is an issue....I have to use 2-ply for my playing style.

I have always put Evans Heads on my Kit. The last set was the Hydraulic series, they sound great. But Just this past week I went to buy some new heads and was looking at the Aquarian Studio X, well they are really great, easier to tune than the Evans and sound Fantastic, I am glad that I tried them, but I must note I also replaced the Resonant Heads with Evans Resonant, If you have not changed the Resonant heads lately they will make a Dead Drum come to life. Just my personal experience.
