Generic, bland, entry level stuff. That's the report from people that post on Drumsmith.

Taiwanese/Chinese, and none of the Swiv-o-matic stuff that helped make the Rogers name, none of the style (no classic Rogers lugs in sight anywhere), and honestly, they sounded very blah. Only the old script logo has survived, and only on the 'high end' kits (and I hesitate to use that term at all for them.) It was a sad re-introduction of the brand to the retailers and distributors who attended the show.

Word is that Yamaha will be making improvements and will be doing the name 'right' in the future. In that case they should have avoided displaying at this show in the first place, and waited until they get the drums where they want them to be. But if these are those, it's a real travesty.

Are they making their own shells? I heard even back in the day, they were really just customizing Kellers (and doing a great job of it, BTW).

Bermudathank you so very much for the news I live in Michigan and could not make the event,I really hope Yamaha re-thinks there process,Rogers was the first kit I played(they were my dads kit) I agree with you they should of got all the bugs out first.if they produce a quality product and I mean the same quality as the old Rogers I believe they would have a good turnover in the US because i'm sure i'm not the only person that would purchase a Rogers kit.let hope Yamaha does it "Right'.

If you go to www.drumforum.org, click on General topics, scroll down to article on NAMM there is about a 20 minute slide show with almost all drums at NAMM.

Had to get my drum fix while this site was down. But true blue to Drummerworld.

My info. and understanding was Rogers used Jasper shells. http://www.drumcenter.com/fea0301.html I don't know if they used Keller.

WAY back, 50s & early 60s I think, they were Jasper shells and would have been considered on a par with Gretsch and other Jasper users at the time. Then they started using Keller shells.

These new kits probably have Asian sourced (if not Yamaha-made) shells. Even if they were Keller, they're not the same design that the Kellers of the 60s, 70s & 80s were.

And there's still a LOT missing before they would be considered real Rogers drums anyway. Just because Yamaha owns the name and calls them that, doesn't mean much.

Yes I agree 100%,thanks a lot Bermuda I've learned more about Rogers today than talking with Yamaha since Aug.06.the people at yamaha I don't. think they even know what there going to do.I think they got to upgrade the quality if any old Rogers players are going to buy them.Rogers the first with memory-loc hardware, swivelmatic tom-holder,Dynasonic snares.Rogers has a good reputation let hope Yamaha doesn't. destroy it.

Thanks again for all your input,

They are unremarkable, and that's the nice kit!

But there are a lot of drums in the marketplace like that, and that's fine. It's just too bad that the Rogers name remains associated with that, when Yamaha has a golden opportunity to not only revive, but re-invent the brand. Rogers has quietly existed as a budget Asian drum for many years, and thankfully, nobody really cared before. Sadly, Yamaha has done nothing new at this point to pull the name up.

As I mentioned before, if Yamaha indeed has bigger plans for the brand, they should have just waited until they got everything sorted out. The Winter NAMM show is an important debut venue for product, and is attended and reviewed by many key persons in the industry. This is a poor first impression that the Rogers name may be difficult to recover from.

Just my opinion of course, but shared by everyone I spoke with at the show.

Hey Bermuda,

Did the Yamaha Rep have any thing to say about plans to improve the quality of the line? Really sad to see such a prominent name slapped on an inferior product.

I didn't speak with the person there, I'm not sure I would have received an accurate answer. That is, if they'd said they were going to improve the drums, I might not have believed them anyway. It was someone else with connections who said Yamaha has plans, and while that's slightly less biased, it's not really a definitive answer either. I think we need to wait and see.

The person at the booth was Bill Crowden, who owned a well known shop in Chicago for many years (and is married to Brooke Ludwig, Bill Jr.'s daughter.) I believe he's in charge of the Rogers division, and is respected in the industry. Again, we'll have to wait and see where this goes.

I truly hope it goes to a good place. I have a great affection for the classic Rogers drums and hardware, and if Yamaha simply picked up where all of that left off in the 70s/80s, there'd be a lot of credibility there.

Very telling how the picture shows people walking away from the set.

Instead of resurrecting a great marque, they have slapped a badge on a FEPOS set. I hope they are able to receover, Bermuda.

Like they did with Premier. ;-)

It's a pity such a fine company went down the gurgler. I remember how lovely those drums were with their reinforcement rings and painted interiors.

Going off into dreamworld right now............................................... ..sigh.
