I bought Aquarians saturday, and I was just playing and the floor tom head cracked straight down the middle. Are these heads poorly made? It is a coated studio-x head.

Do you have the one with or without the dot? How hard do you hit? How was the head tuned etc?

I hit pretty hard, it didn't have a dot, and it was tuned kind of low, the weirdest thing was this was the first head I've ever broken and I used to play remo's. I heard that aquarians were more durable but i guess not.

They are the most tough and durable head on the market !

Ok let me try to figure out what happened. Did you tried to seat and crack the head like you do with remo head ? Did you overtighten the head (if you noticed, Aquarian head are already stretched and giving tone out of the box) then tune it back low ? Have you verify the constancy of your floor tom bearing edge before installing the new head ?

The good new is you head is covered by the best customer service on the market, you simply need to send an email or call Aquarian directly, explain the problem and they will ship you brand new heads (and maybe some extra), you probably fell on a defective one.

Seat? Like sit on them, I usually don't sit on my drum heads though.

I sent them an e-mail explaining to them what happened and asked if they can replace it. We'll see what happens.

No like pushing with the palm of your hand (CPR type) in the center of your head after cranking the head tight. With Remo and Evans, you actually hear the epoxy/glue crack from the hoops.

You'll probably be asked to call back and talk to this guy...

I was kidding. But it would be funny if someone did sit on there drumhead to stretch them out. Thats pretty cool that they come pre stretched though.

That's why they trade mark the "tap test"...

About seating, I already saw someone climb (his whole body) on his newly installed bass drum batter for seating it...

check your toms angles to. An insane angle on them is murder to heads

But aquarian probably will replace it

jason bittner stands on his evans EQ3 bass drum head to stretch it enough before a gig.

He probably does it because it will wear the head in. Which will make them stay in tune longer I guess

I have had Jack Dejohnette heads on both my snare and toms with no problem and I hit hard as hell. They didn't even dent. I think that 'fat in the middle' and 'tama boy' had bad heads.

The same thing happened to my aquarian head, it was the first head I had ever broke. I did like the tone it produced, and it did last a long time. I was just puzzled because I wasn't even hitting hard(rather lightly) and bam the thing had a line from one side to the other. Doesn't really affect my opinion on Aquarian, though I did replace it with an ambassador to check out how they sound.

You guys must be hitting really hard. I can be a hard hitter some times and I've had clear Studio-Xs for over 6 months with hardly any denting. Maybe you just got a bad one. :x

I'm so ready for new heads it's not funny. I want to try some different Aquarians this time. A coated type but I'm not sure yet.

Try satin finish texture coated... I heard really good feedback about their new Super-2 but I cant comment myself, I might give them a try when it will be timme to replace my response II from both my floor toms.
