Colored cymbals

Why are they so rare? Drums come in every color and finish imaginable, yet your choices for cymbals are shiny brass or dirty brass. I sometimes see a chrome finish cymbal.

I know colored cymbals are out there, I just don't see them. Anybody have any or know where to look?

That is because drums CAN look better in different colors. Cymbals, well look rather weird. You would have to get appropriate colored cymbals to match your set, unless you want a clown set. The traditional "golden look" finish fits every color, and all in all looks better and more pleasing to the eyes.

Paiste used to make Colored Cymbals. They don't make them anymore. You might be able to find them on eBay. As far as color goes other than ordering Black or White coated RUDES and the Paiste Reflectors (basically shiny Signatures) there's not much you can do for colored cymbals.

Have you seen the Saluda earthworks series, they look amazing, and saludas sound amazing also. I bought a set and was blown away by the size and the quality of the sound.

There was a thread a while back with a red Paiste on ebay. The guy (can't remember who) ended up getting it for a good price, I would have loved to grab it

These were known as the ColorSound series and Steve Jordan, who was on the Letterman show was heavily into promoting them. Zildjian had Brillants and eventually offered the platinum finish as well.

That's probably the answer to the unposted question:"Could I paint them with car paint?"
I think it would alter the sound and you don't know in which way before you try, so get an old lousy cymbal and try it and if it fails, you have tried at least.
There's an Austrian ebay-shop (http://stores.ebay.de/Drum-Partner_CYMALMANIA-ab-17-30-tgl_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ8QQftidZ2QQtZkm) which sold lots of coloured cymbals some months ago and they were cheap as hell, but probably also sounded that cheap.

One of my rides is a Paiste red colorsound. Great cymbal. Got it for free. Makes the cymbal even greater, maybe.
