Hi,

Just about to buy a Cymbal pack to mess with at a practise studio.

Which are better sounding cymbals? The Meinl MCS or Zildjian ZHT's?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Garrie

I dont know much about the meinls but iv used ZHTs and wasnt particuarly impressed. Theyre pretty much what ud expect from sheet cymbals. They're bearable but not great...except those mini hats! Cant get enough of them!

It completely depends on ur style though, what are u gonna play? I would go to a shop and try both, in the end it doesnt matter what other people think, which do u prefer?

I heard the ZHT EFX crash in person and it sounds very very cool!! I'd buy that cymbal if it was cheaper. i think it goes for something like $190. I would agree with the kung foo guy and go for the Paiste's cause they are much better quality.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The cymbals are just for messing around at the practise studio, I will just be working on ideas, technique etc, won't be playing with a band, just me practising.

Cheers
Garrie

From what i'v heard, Meinl MCS, no one thinks much of the low end zaildjians here.

Neither. I'd go with PST 5s -- best beginner/intermediate cymbals you can find.

MCS hi-hats sound pretty good. I once heard the hi-hat live and was really surprised to learn it's just a MCS. For me, MCS will be better than ZHT, despite the fact that ZHT alloy is more rich in tin. Yet, ZHT EFX crashes sound surprisingly good on Zildjian website.

PS: Kung f00 is right, Paiste PST5 will be even better than MCS/ZHT (except maybe for EFX crashes).

PST5... maybe the hats will sound OK but the crash is terrible. I sold my crash soon after I got my PST5 pack and got myself a K dark. The ride is OK but it gets tiring to play with after a while, its got a long ringy wash.

MCS or ZHT, sorry never heard of either but hope I was able to help since some peeps mentioned PST5

how about second hand?

Definitely the Meinls. Although the MCS logo is pretty ugly they sound tight :)

Save your ears and get the meinls. I had a full set of zht and they were terrible. I know meinl is a good company. Zildjian is too, but the zht are just balls. (I love my A's)

DEFINATLEY mcs. Meinl is the way to go for cymbals. I have a set, and im in love. Especialy after playing other kits with entry level cymbals, and learning what evntry level cymbals are supposed to sound like (really bad, and dull), its hard for me to believe that my MCS are entry level cymbals.

In my opinion, theyve gotta be the best on the market right now, for the price.

I also have the MSC pack and I can recommend them, although Im now looking to upgrade.

The hats in this set are great hats.. hands down.

the crash sounds good but IMO lacks a bit of power.

The Ride is a good rock and metal ride and thats about it i feel.
