I got inspired buy some tracks a friend gave me to work on. I got this idea at about 2 am and pulled out a set of really cheap bongos, my zil bell, and a tambourine, and just went for it...........now, I am not a hand drummer, this was totaly just an idea that came to me as I listened to the music. The next day i quickly set up a couple mics before work and recorded a linear, kind of Gaddish groove, and in the middle I come in with a medium tempo songo type groove.....sorry, the drumset sound is kinda gross, like I said, it was a quick mic set up and there was no sound check, I just wanted to get the idea down. The playing is a tad loose here and there, again just an idea I wanted to get down....
I would LOVE feed back and advise, as this is or at least a version of this is going to be used on my friends track. If you think parts are too crowded, don't fit, or have ideas for different, more authentic parts, please comment. If you think it just sucks, well tell me that too.........anyway, sorry again about the wonkie drum sound, but the audio is clear.....

Thank you for all the kind compliments, I hope to post the finished product once it is done, guitars and all! If anybody has any ideas, advise or criticisims, I would love to hear it......for example, my guitar friend is probaly just gonna use the percussion tracks rather than the drumset part, it fits his ideas a little better than the drumset part, so I will have to develope parts for the song rather than just the groove itself, I just wanted to hear some ideas against the percussion. Any and all feed back is welcome....like I said, I realize there is a timing issue going on here and there, but I think when the grooves sit nice, it feels pretty good, what do you think?

good ear, ya it's the mozambique..I was gonna use the traditional cowbell part with the open-closed tones, but I think the Tamb. is more the colour my buddy is looking for, also I have to becarefull not to over do it, or it will be too crowded
Thanx for listening!

That was really interesting actually, very nice idea and I love the bongo pattern. The bell pattern you were playing reminded me of the drum groove from Ray Charles' 'What I'd Say', nice mozambique pattern on the tambourine as well. I think I might invest in a zil-bel after all.

Thanx man, ya the zilbell can be a cool little sound, though I admit I don't use it that much, but I guess as long as it's there when you need it! Anything that adds more colour and opens new doors can only be a good investment............Hey, didn't Ringo cop that Ray Charles groove on "I Feel Fine"(I think that was the name of it)? Maybe I got the songs mixed up, but I know the Beatles covered a couple of Ray's songs, and one was inspiration for "I Feel Fine"......anyway, thanx again to everybody, and please, any ideas or comments are more than welcome!

Nice. Very trance like, good layering that I don't think gets too crowded at all, and I like some of the Gaddish stuff going on in the drum part, namely the hi hat work that adds another layer to the mix without screaming "I'm playing the hi hats now!!"

Thanx , ya, I wanted the hi hat to be part of the groove, not just keeping time.
Any other comments, suggestions?

I dunno, try it out with the cowbell, see how it sounds. Tamb sounds nice, but I think the cowbell might sound better. Just my opinion though

Very innovative!!!!! I liked it alot. Put a nasty bass line in at about the 2:00 transition and you have a intro to the next tool album. Really inspiring keep up the good work.
