crash/ride or ride

would a crash ride work as a ride, i have a 16" that is horrible at crash and horrible at ride but would an 18" work?

If you're in a pinch, yes an 18" Crash/Ride would function as a ride, but if you're looking for more ping/less wash, you're going to be dissapointed. My first set of cymbals were ZBTs (13" hats, 18" crash/ride) and I always got frustrated at how much wash the crash/ride gave off. HOWEVER, as a secondary ride 18" crash/rides are excellent, because they give off a completely different feel than a 20" ride and are good for mixing up ride patterns. But as a primary ride.. I'd look for a 2+ inch upgrade.

depends on how much you use a ride, if you dont use it that much, go for a crash ride, if you use a ride alot get a ride. crash rides are still relativly thin and have tons of overtones. (at least the a zildjian crash ride i had did)

Don't get hung up on cymbal "names". I have a 19" Sabian HHXextreme Crash that is great as a ride. I also have a 21" Sabian HHX Groove Ride that is a great crash in it's own right (IMO). In fact I made a video demoing my cymbals a while back. The kit and setup are out of date but it still does a decent job of showing what I like about them.

Well like I said, just because it says crash/ride on it, doesn't mean it'll be what you want. The best thing to do is to play as many cymbals in person. You may find a crash that has a ride sound you want or a ride that has a crash sound you want. When it comes to crashes I think bigger models work out better.

I'm looking at some crash rides too anyone got any specific models to suggest?

I have an 18" AA crash/ride. I use it as my right-hand crash, basically my main crash. As a crash it has bit of a swell and a long decay. As a ride it is washy and sounds better with lighter sticks, playing jazzy stuff. For rock I ride my 22" Paragon.
If you use a crash/ride as a ride, you have to be careful with your dynamics or you will build up quite a lot of wash and overtones very quickly. light sticks help.

well anyway, i have good news, im borrowing 2 field crashes(18") from the school and ones cracked and they have another pair anyway but im using the uncracked one as a ride and the cracked one as a cool sounding crash and its working and i might buy them or buy a 20", and has anyone ever used a crash cymbal for marching as a ride, i got the idea since we use them as rides in the stands at games

Honestly, if you like the sound of it, then that's what matters. Yes, it's not exactly a ride.. but if it works for you then that's what counts.

i have a question about the meinl headliner pack too, has anyone used them before?, i've heard good and bad reviews for them

here is the deal beginner stuff sucks! even if it is for practice. it still sucks they will sound bad stick responce the feel bad everything about beginner stuff is bad thats why it is for beginners. you are not going to get anything that is worth anything unless you spend a bit.

if you are looking for a crash ride get a nice one.

if you dont want to spend a lot screw brand names

dream cymbals contact ride 22'' $138 hand hammered and sounds AMAZING and a 20 would be roughly 100 120ish range

saluda cymbals also make great stuff for half the price of the big three i got set of hats for nothing just tradeing in my horid b8 hats and ride that i wish i never had

wuhan cymbals i have never tried anything other than the chinas but there are a lot of people who like them

if it is brass then its not worth it brass doesnt compare to bronze .
and if you are looking for a crash/ride just try out rides you like and try crashing them a lot of rides sound great crashed even tho they are not called crash rides
