Pork Pie?

I'm thinking about buying a Pork Pie kit, anyone have any comments about them?

Any other small manufacturers you think sound great? Spaun? C&C? etc...(I have an Ayotte and a Gretsch kit right now, which will be sold to pay for this next kit.)

I've never played a Pork Pie, but the ones I've seen look amazing and I've heard nothing but good things about them. Some other good small companies are Tree House, out of Topeka, Kansas, and Precision Drum out of New York.

What series Ayotte and Gretsch? If they are high end kits, you sure you want to do this? High end Ayottes are supposed to be just about the pinnacle of the cats meow in drums.

I love Pork Pie. Getting a new kit from them had always been a great experience. Bill Detamore cuts all the edges himself. Whatever you want, he will make for you, and will offer you, if you want, great input as far as sizes and finish for your style of playing.

I love mine. I haven't had any quality issues, they look amazing, and they are the best sounding maple drums i've ever heard.

Thanks for the reponses so far. I have two Ayottes- a Custom and it is AWESOME- and a Pro. I'm selling the pro. The only problem with Ayottes is they are REALLY fragile and for the places I'm playing I really need a wrapped drumset. I have a Gretsch USA Custom which is nice, but I'm looking for something a little more "modern" sounding.

Glad to hear that people like their Pork Pies. Anyone else?

PP sound very good, my problem with them is their shoddy work.

Pork Pie is a top-end customizer. They purchase Keller shells, then customize them according to what the customer wants.

Rogers, while not known as a custom drum company, did the same thing, buying Keller shells and finishing them.

I have one of thier snares(little squealer) and there was a big problem with the tension rods vibrating loose, (even when I had it tuned very very high) and then rods for the resonant side would fall out completely, I've only heard of this happening to one other person,and they had the same model.
but this was easily fixed with lug locks on every rod
other than that I have never heard a snare I love more in my life.

Pork Pie drums are great. I have a new set that should ship out this week. Blue Sparkle wrap in the following sizes dim x depth: 6x12 , 6x14 , 8x7 , 10x8 , 12x9 , 14x12 , 16x14 18in Gong Drum w/ 20in head , 20x20 kick and 28x20 kick. I will post pics when I can after I get it all mounted.
I have also had the little squealer drum in the past and it was great ... not as good as a USA pork pie snare but still good and I have never had any quality control issues.

Pork Pie kits are great. C&C kits are my favorite, but probably one of the most expensive ones. Another good company is Epiarch.

Heres pics of the new Pork Pie Set ... just came today and got almost everything set up... I forgot to mount the popcorn snare... and also Im not sure where I want to put the gong drum. For now its on the left side.

Woah, thats a sweet kit! I'm assuming your a big guy, because I'd have to be a gymnast to be able to spread my feet across those pedals!

LOL ... It does seem a bit spread out to look at it , but It seems natural to me and also helps me with positioning the toms etc... Guess I got used to it over the years.

Im using 20x20 kicks in my double bass setup and a 28x20 for the single bass setup.
