Here's a pic of the prettiest set I have ever seen. I found it on the Drum Shed forum gallery. This guy built himself one hell of a drumset. Do you agree?

Odery kits are amazingly beautiful.

Custom kits are very interesting and cool if the person making it has good taste.

I saw a kit in the Modern drummer magazine in the December of '05 that was a Pearl with a giant Ludwig Bass drum as a muffle. The shells had some scary faces on it with dark wrap and it was pretty eye catching.

Honestly, Any Epiarch kit I see is always beautiful.

They make sick kits.

Cant wait till I get mine :]

Actually, those look quite a bit like Bearing Edge drums, which I believe is now out of business. My buddy had a kit made that looks quite a bit like those, same lugs and general finish idea.

Edit: That said, they're BEAUTIFUL! ;)

you guys should try to be a little nicer he likes it, you dont have to be dont be overly rude about it. a simple "i dont like it" would of done just fine. Ocdp kits are costly but they have a good sound that alot of people like. i would rather go to Sjc or trinity drums and percussion.

hmm my favorite is this:

If any of you guys had alot of money what do you think your custom kit would be like?

I got a pretty good custom snare with wooden hoops for christmas but i think if i really could get a set and had money to lay down id get a nice wooden one with the hoops kinda like that odery. i really like the wood finish. i got a question about some of the sets. what are the see-through ones like the old ludwig and custom kits made out of? does that affect the sound alot?

they're made from acrylic. you'll also see them referred to as "vistalites". theyre very different from wood.. they don't have as much of a rich, warm tone as the various woods have. i've heard from people that they take a while to tune in order to get the sound you want out of them, whereas with some maple kits -- they can sound amazing right out of the box. genre-wise, i'd stick acrylic/vista kits with more rock oriented music.. they don't fare so well with jazz and whatnot. in my opinion they're more "showy" than musical, but i'm sure there are people out there that will probably swear by acrylic kits.

The see-through ones are made of Acrylic (usually). It changes the sound, just like changing the type of wood does.

If I had a lot of money, my kit would be made completely out of Purple Heart wood. Each drum would have a pearl ring around it (much like the gold ring in the kit Mista Bob posted). The rest would just be covered with a clear coat for protection. I actually plan on ordering a snare like this around April.

I like the way many of the classic jazz kits look. In fact, I recently reconfigured my own kit to this arrangement; I find it works very well.

This kit however, is ridiculously cool looking. I love the obviously 'vintage' feel to it with the strings.

Too bad I'm not a fan of the drummers who own them.

MFB... I saw this Snare at Noonandrums.com and I'm pretty shure it's the same colour as Blue Onyx from PDP...

http://noonandrums.com/newimages/RW-027.jpg

And The PDP Colour: This is a pic from a lousy Camera, the colour is much lighter then this, not this dark...
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q189/Joihroa/CIMG17082.jpg

Might this be one of the reasons PDP is stopping manifacturing Blue Onyx?

I doubt it. Their reasons for no longer producing the drums will not be that custom makers are using the same finish. Who knows? Could always email them to ask.

Im paying a lot less for a custom kit at Truth than I would any where else. 7x13, 8x12, 12x14, 14x16, and a 20x20. It's also a plus that they re-located and are in my area now, so I can not only help build the kit, but I can make sure everything is prefect and to my liking. I had a Shine custom kit, and it was TERRIBLE; Wrapping was bad, and the wood was not sanded or stained/and or lacquered. Most custom companys are all the same, but with OCDP, you're definitly paying for the name, which I GUESS is understandable considering they have been around the longest out of all the newer custom companys.

VERY NICE !
They're not bad on the eyes at all !

Noel at Heartbeat Percussion showed me a Peace Kahuna tom when I bought my cymbals from him. The tom was one from this kit (the double bass add):

It looked much nicer in person than the kit on the Web site here. If I hadn't already bought my Gretsch I would have most likely bought one like that.

Thanks Kona. Yes when I found out they had shipped him perhaps the first Peace Kahuna jazz shell pack to North America I jumped at the opportunity to snap them up. Yup much more amazing looking in the flesh than any web picture and the SOUND is something else from these 9 ply Bubinga shells.
