there are NEW 2005 and used 2003 to buy here in Poland. 2005 is a bit more expensive <about 1/6>.
which one will you choose? new 2005 or used 2003? and why?

Birch/Basswood! Birch/Basswood!
The 2000 Force series have ALWAYS had a birch content, the 3000 series have ALWAYS has the maple content... it's really not all that tricky.

As I hold the Sonor 05/06 Guidebook in my hand, I read the following, and I quote-
" Force 2005- Full Birch."
" Force 3005- Full Maple."
That is just one of the things that makes these relatively inexpensive kits a great value for the money. An all-birch or maple kit at what they go for is a great deal. I stress the word "relatively," since they still cost a pretty penny, or pound, or mark, whatever, but compared to S-Class, Delite, Designer and SQ2, they are quite reasonable.

The question was for the 2003 and that is basswood/maple. Thread over.

The 2003 is basswood/BIRCH.
The 3003 is basswood/MAPLE.

Edit:
Now hold on. It looks like the 2003 might be maple and the difference between the 2003 and the 3003 is the hardware.

OK, found it. According the The Sonor Museum sight, it describes the Force 200X series as:
Force 2001, 2003 - 9-ply basswood shells;
2005 - 9-ply all birch shell
Matte stain finishes.

That's news to me, according to the Sonor 2003 catalogue, both have the same hardware (TAR mounting system) and the 2003 has the birch/basswood shells and the 3003 have the maple/birchwood shells. The 1003 has the all basswood shells.

Yeah, like you, I always thought 200X series carried the Birch.

which one will you suggest? 2003 or 2005?

You're best bet would be to try them out yourself, if possible. One's suggestion based on what they like might differ from yours.

As far as my knowledge suggests, the difference between the two will be minimal. The shell composition will affect the sound slightly perhaps, but not significantly. Ultimately it comes down to cost, the 2003 Series are still excellent drums, as are the 2005 Series. If the 2003's are significantly cheaper, then I would go for those, if the prices are the same, the 2005 Series would make more sense as the 'newer' model, and therefore more easily upgraded. Although I've heard of 2005 Toms being used with 2003 Toms and there being no problems whatsoever.

I would wait until the 1007/2007/3007 lines are introduced at NAMM. Newer finishes, hardware upgrades, traditional sizes instead of power sizes, etc...

what would you choose - sonor 2005 or mapex m?

What I mean is that the difference between a basswood and birch combination shell with an all birch shell will be difficult to ascertain.

The Sonor-Force 2003 is a quality kit that gives great value for the money paid.
I do not know about pricing where you live, but the 2003 series prices have gone down considerably in the US since the 2005s were introduced.
I am sure that you would be pleased with the 2003s, as many other members here already are. The kits look great, sound great, and are built to last.

I can buy sonor 2003 standard set with all the hardware for about 650$. new 2005 costs around 1100$, so I think that's not a bed offer... am I right?
Sonor

A new 2005 shouldn't cost that much.

I really like my 2003. It's worth it because it's a quality semi-pro kit, probably one of the best it its class.

It is all so confusing with all the Force series :-D
I think Medio is right: the 2000īs series are always birch.
As far as I know it is Birch/Basswood.
