testing out sabian series, and zildjian series right next to eachother, they're the same! the b8 is like the zbt, b8pro/zxt, xs20/zht, aa, prosonix/avedis, aa metal-x/z custom, aax/a custom, hhx/k, hh/k custom! they're all pretty much the same hamering and lathing. it's so weird how robert zildjian took his brother and sisters ways and made them his own (not really) pretty cool.

the K custom are more like hhx's because they are both customish versions of the oriigonals, like HH and K. So, it would be K/HH, and K custom and HHX, but other than that your correct.

You're aware that it's the same company, right?

I thought it was one company owned by Zildjian but obviously I was unaware of the split ownership (I'm assuming that's the case now?) It's not that I don't like Zildjian, I use all Sabian, but no hate towards the line at all.

I have realized that a few and only a few of the cymbals are the exact same. I tried out an aax cymbal and an A custom (dunno which) and they were the exact same sound. I didnt buy it, but they were the exact same price. I probably wouldve gotten the A custom just because i have more zildjians heh.

They've always been different companies. In the late 70's, Mr. Zildjian passed the 'secret formula' onto BOTH his sons, with the tradition being only to pass it onto the oldest son. Obviously, that caused a bit of a schism and Robert Zildjian took the smaller Canadian manufacturing plant and founded Sabian. And that's how it remains over two decades later.

Well Zildjian IS the longest-established, still-functioning business in the US, and was formed in the 17th Century, so you'd presume so.

I've played both, and I think Sabian makes there cymbals a little better. Maybe its just my luck, but Zildjians have always cracked on me. (And no, I don't hit them like an ape) Sabian seems to make there cymbals sound a bit more consistent then Zildjian does. You could play two Zildjian cymbals, exactly the same, and there will be a greater difference in the sound, rather then with Sabians.

Were they the same size because usually a customs are more expensive.

You don't have to hit a cymbal like an apre to crack it. You only need to hit in a straight on manner enough times to crack it.

It was a joke. I have a thread about me cracking my DW pedal, and I think some people didn't understand that I don't hit my pedals like an 'Ape'...hence the Ape.

Yeah they were the same size. I was surprised actually that they were the same price, because Zildjians do tend to be more expensive. I guess the Guitar center realized it was the same sound and just gave em the same price.
