Since there have been so many posts about people looking for cheap cymbals, just thought I'd mention that there are several Sabian B8s on ebay right now for around $20 each. Not sure how good these are, but might be worth a look.

I love ebay!! Ive bought 2 cymbals off there so far. A 20" Signature series full Ride for $178
and a pair of Alpha 15" power hihats. Both are in great shape and sound terrific!

Don't buy B8 cymbals, no matter how cheap they are. They are just bad bad bad cymbals and you'll hate them after one hit.

Are they worse than other cheap cymbals like planet Z's?

Oh well, just trying to help. My bad.

They aren't that bad, the thin crash sound decent and if you gig they cut and melt well in the mix even unmiced. There a really good thread on cymbaholic about B8. Just like to inform you that in september issus of MD there's an article about a funky drummer that used 3 20" B8 ride (used as crash/ride) in his setup.

I would 100 times have Sabian B8 versus Zildjian planet Z ;-)

I think they sound like complete shite, wayyyyy too bright and tin like. Better get yourself some A customs or A's.

You're right in your some of your opinion but not is same cat... one is entry level and the other is pro, one is B8 the other is B20

Yet I'd go with the Bliss or contact series from Dream Cymbals..

But I don't see why you'd buy entry level cymbals and waste your money on those, when you could save up/rent some higher end cymbals and be happy with those instead of ditching these B8's in a month or so and go through the hassle of selling them.

I know I can afford expensive cymbals now but it's not everybody that can afford high end. Like its already been said in a lot of thread... everything comes to the "ear" of the beholder.

True, but then I put the person's hearing into question.

i bought xs20's...IMO the best cymbal below the pro lines...that was about september, and if i wanted to get pro cymbals instead of buying them, i would probly would just have my last one (if i got hats crash and ride), plus i wouldnt have my BP. depends how much money you have, and it is harder for kids...if i didnt get them, i would've had to play my (almost rusted) cymbals that came with the kit...

XS20's are very nice cymbals for a beginner. If you're not going to get pro cymbals, then at least get the XS20's from Sabian or PST 5's from Paiste. Stay away from Solar, B8, Planet Z, ZBT, ZXT, or anything else under PST 5's.

wow, for like 699 you can get a set of A customs with hats, crash ride and either a second crash or splash for free with them. WOW cymbals must be alot more there, because the exchange is next to nothing from CAD to AUD.
and nice work with them, ive played the crash, sounded alright.

about 6 months ago I got myself a Meinl MCS Cymbal pack.
These are great beginner cymbals IMO up there with paiste PST5s and are a heap cheaper.

Im glad I got a set of beginner cymbals because it has given me time and helped me realise what sound I want to go for in the long run.

So whatever beginner pack you go with, dont spend too much money on it because chances are you'll want to upgrade before long.

Funny, cuz last time I checked A's have more tin content than B8s but enough science, they do sound nasty and way too bright.

Well if you just started playing and don't have the money to buy something a little more "top of the line" they work just fine.

Fair enough, but it might be a b**** when trying to sell them after you hate them. I'm just trying to help this beginner so that he doesn't choose wrong cymbals.

MANDION: I seriously suggest you go to the Sabian website and hear them or better yet, go to the store and hear them in person...you'll see what I mean.

Whats up with this 'I agree, they sound pretty good in my opinion. WAy better than anything Camber could come out with.....' mentality?

That's like saying 'Well..these zildjian sticks aren't as bad as this driftwood i found...so i'll play them'.

Beginner cymbals are beginner cymbals. That's all there is.

Whats up is I do like the way they sound. Camber completely sucks A** and even the B8's sound WAY better. No its not like saying that, sometimes, people like me, actually like bright and "tinny".

Yes they are beginner cymbals but sometimes what people like is inversed as to be compared with other people. Maybe you should reithink what you say before you say it, possibly have a filter installed between your brain and mouth?
