Hi all-
Just traded in my entry level Tama Stagestars for these awesome Yamaha SC Nouveuas. (Matte black Oak finish). It takes some getting used to going from an anemic 18" bass drum to a thundering 22", but I'm managing nicely, thanks to a new Evans EMAD batter. Plus, I'm amazed at how the response of the stock Yamaha bass pedal and Highhat stand far exceed my previous aftermarket Gibraltar equipment. Right now, I have Aquarian P2's on the toms, but I think I will switch them back to the Evans G2 clears that the kit came with...much more resonant and less "choked" sounding than the Aqaurians. (which sounded great on my old Tamas, conversley.)

You will love the "quick change" composite lugs Bro, -takes about half the time to change heads! Which finish did you order?

Great kit, thumper. You will be happy with your purchase. Is that a K Ride I see? Again, your kit is classy and looks good.

Thank you golions,
Yes, that is my sweet 22" K ride, the only Zildjian in my otherwise Sabian lineup. (Except for the 16" Wuhan China). I'm assuming you have the 20" K Heavy ride? Sabian just didn't have a ride that satisfied me as much as the K. (and I've tried quite a few...)
Speaking of classy, good looking kits, you have one that just leaves me in awe!! I love that finish-VERY cool!

8" tom, 10" tom, 14" floor tom, 20" bass!

Welcome to the Yamaha club! I play both Yamaha (personal kit - Oak Customs) and a Tama Swingstar Kit at church...must say I prefer the Yamaha kit but the Tama does a great job as the church kit.

I like the black wax finish...

Enjoy your new kit!

Thumper, did you have any lug problem?

Lug problem in what way? I've never had one break on me, if that's what you mean....

Really nice drums you got there!

My only suggestion is to get rid of the boom stand holding the splash and replace the stand with one of these...

a Gibraltar Boom Arm Attachment. It's only about $35 US. It'll get rid of the boom stand in front of the kick drum.

I have a Yamaha Stage Custom kit. It's not my main kit but it absolutely could be. Birch outer ply and poplar inners I believe... Don't let anyone tell you that less expensive woods aren't as good. It's wood! If I blindfolded you and forced to do an A/B comparison with my DW's....it would be hard to differentiate. For straight non re ringed drums, Yamaha and Tama make great shells.
