For those that have paid attention, apparently the Buddy Rich Drum Company is up and ready to go with its big debut at the NAMM 2007 show. Anyone heard anymore about this other than the little news blurbs and pictures on the websites? Apparently they plan on making a few levels of kits, sticks, and accessories. Besides who could turn down a vintage color wrapped kit 24x14, 13x9, 2 16x16 kit with cymbal arms in maple shells with Buddy Rich's name on it :)

The news is on the Buddy Rich page and they apparently have a myspace account as well...

I could. Any idea how much it goes for?

Is it any better that the DW Buddy Rich Kit that his daughter was pimping just last year - Good looking kit by the way.

Why not just by a Ludwig Classic Maple in WMP and slap a BR logo on the bass drum? Those would look pretty authentic - of course without the bass mounted cymbal stands.

Remember when that company named Slingerland (the drums Buddy actually played) produced the BR kit? They still make the Gene Krupa model. At least there's some authenticity associating BR with Slingerland.

There's good old Cathy Rich making a buck off the old man's name. Good for her.

I think it's the same kit... They had the new Buddy Rich Drum Company stuff at the Vater booth at PASIC this past Nov. (Vater owens the BR Drum Company, I think). The whole kit had DW Hardware on it. I am guessing DW is making the kit for Vater, and in turn Vater and Cathy Rich sell it under this "new" company.

I wonder what will happen to the Buddy Rich Drumsticks that Vic Firth makes? If this new company is making sticks, then I am guessing Vic has to stop?

Vic must keep their pimp hand strong, in a matter of speaking.

What's odd is the trouble that you would have to go through to buy a kit in those sizes today. I'm glad they are coming out with new vintage style kits, I like the old simple look and set-up. I miss that with my kit where you have to adjust things in 5 different places.
Laquered kits are so popular now, that the wraps are overlooked. Another question is why they stopped making kits with cymbal arms on the bass drum like that. I thought that's a brilliant idea instead of setting up a separate stand a few feet away and having to deal with the boom arms. If these new drums turn out cheaper, Ludwig may lose some business...(Buddy did play a set of Ludwigs btw...) As for those DW Classics, I never saw those offered anywhere. Vic Firth wouldn't have to stop making anything. There are current artists that switch back and forth between ProMark, VicFirth, Vater, and even Zildjian sticks (for promotion purposes I'm sure). Now we must wait...

I have actually seen one of the DW Buddy Rich kits in person....and I was told that Cathy Rich put a stop to DW doing this and marketing them as the Buddy Rich signature kit.

I would rather have one of the Buddy Rich kits that Ludwig made in the early 1980s anyway. They looked great in the catalog and you could actually order these from Ludwig with the BR logo on the front bass drum head! I wonder if they came with the infamous tape!

Ludwig has brought back the cymbal arm mounted on the bass drum. I ordered it with my maple classics and it's great. I believe the option is for their maple classic line and their birch line only. If DW are making these drums I seriously doubt that they would be cheaper then Ludwig. All you have to do is order the BR sizes in mother of pearl from Ludwig and you have a BR kit. It may not come with BR logo on the bass drum or the blessing of Buddy's family but technically it is a BR kit because it is what he used. I don't understand what you mean when you say the trouble you have to go through to buy those sizes today? All you have to do is order them with Ludwig and they will make it for. I have a 14"x26" BD, 10"x14" Tom, 16"x16"FT, and a 16"x18"FT. These sizes are listed in their catalogue and you can get them in either wrapped finishes or wood finishes.

Talk about pimping.....

As far as I know, Buddy Rich played Rogers, Leedy,WFL, Ludwig, Slingerland, and I heard he might have even endorsed Trixon. Pretty much anyone that would pay him...and as you can guess...EVERYBODY wanted Buddy to play their drums.

Seems that he played Singerland for the longest, but I could be wrong.
The greatest drummer of all time....and a shrewd business man !

Here is the Ludwig version from about 1979 or 1980:

The tubular legs were pretty sturdy and the stand were more light-weight than most of the double-braced stands sold today!

Here is a good picture of the flagship kit of the new Buddy Rich drum company. They are making a couple of different kits but this is the real Buddy one.

The Buddy Rich Signature kit is designed after the legend’s personal specifications. The 100% Maple shell's ply distribution from one drum size to another is arranged to deliver the best tone, projection and resonance: 14”x24” bass drum (7 ply), 9”X13” rack tom (6 ply), two 16”X16” floor toms (7 ply) and matching 5”x14” snare drum (10 ply).

Made to Buddy's personal specifications
100% maple shells
Vintage hardware includes beavertail lugs and rail consolette
Two bass drum-mounted cymbal stands
White Marine Pearl finish
The Beaver Tail Lugs, “Rail Consolette” Tom mount and shell-mounted ride and splash cymbal holders are vintage in design, but manufactured to meet the quality and durability demands of today’s drummer. The gorgeous, high-density White Marine Pearl finish rounds out the authentic features of this amazing sounding drum kit. The Buddy Rich Signature Kit is an outstanding set of drums for the most demanding live or studio gigs… and quite the collector’s piece!
