hello everyone

I'm a bit confused. was looking for a nice kit and found pork pie. BUT I don't know anything about buying hardware for such a drums. I'm talking about tom holders the most, of course. eg. can I use dw hardware in pork pie drums? will it fit? and what about gibraltar? I guess pork pie hardware isn't perfect, as they rather don't have as much experience as dw or other big brands. am I right?

and what about other small drum makers? are the hardware of all brands interchangeable? I'm sorry, maybe that's a stupid question, but I can't find anything about it...

and last thing - if you can tell me which company makes the best hardware out there... will be grateful for your advices :)

btw. sorry for my English if it isn't good...

I have a pork pie kit, and posted a similar thread a while back.
The tom holders (Pork Rings) are Gibraltar. Mapex Hardware or Pork Pie Hardware will fit those holders. What I did was simply modify the existing tom holders to fit DW hardware.

thanks, hateplow. I've seen your kit - it's really great.

what do you think about the quality of gibraltar compared to dw? I've heard dw is a bit overpriced...

I don't actually have any Gibraltar hardware, except for the tom mounts. All my tom stands are DW, which are great, but expensive. I think Gibraltar's reputation is pretty solid, you could probably find a thread on Gibraltar hardware somewhere in this forum...
You could also modify the mounts to fit Yamaha, Tama or Pearl.

well, there's really no definitive answer as to the best (as with nearly everything) but it seems a lot of people swear by yamaha, and i cant recall hearing any complaints about it

DW makes some great hardware. For the stuff that NEEDS to be heavy (like tom stands), nothing beats a DW9000 stand. However they also make a lot of lighter and less expensive stands (6000 series) that are perfect if beefy is not your bag.

You sure you want pork pie? There from Keller shells (like almost every custom company) Your paying for the name.. Go Conaway or any other less known company and you can find the same thing you want cheaper (If you want a Keller shell).

Or better yet with the money you'l spend for a Pork Pie or any other company, go DW or Sonor

All Pork Pie drums come standard with the 10.5mm tom mount..ie Tama. Pork Pie does make their own stands if you want. I have several that are 9 years old and are still great. They are also lighter than the Tama if that matters to you. Yamaha hardware requires a hole in the shell for the tom arem, right?. This would make Bill cry.

Yamaha YESS mounts require two small holes for screws to be fitted to the shell. Nothing serious, but if you don't like holes being drilled then they're not for you. I personally think the convenience is worth it, but others don't.

The key to hardware is buying something that works. If you don't need a cymbal stand that adjusts in 5 different places then don't buy one. Many times the simpler hardware is the best to have you just fold it up and go with it. I have a Pork Pie throne though, very nice indeed. Then again, I got this on sale for less than the normal price. I've seen Yamaha, Pearl, and TAMA hardware all fall apart the same rate as Ludwig or Gibralter. If you take good care of your stuff it will last regardless of its complexity or weight. Just get something that fits the drums and does what you want it to do regardless of the brand.

True, Thats why I bough Mapex hardware for my kit.. Its prett basic and IMO the easiest system to use
