I recently recieved my 2007 catolgue from zildjian, and they have some new and exciting products for the new year. The first one is from the K line, it is the "light" cymbals. They include new light hi hats in 13" and 14" diamiter with medium thin weight top, medium weight bottom. They're desinged for the light player hense the "light" name. The next cymbal is another K Light, its the 24" light ride. It is at the heavy end of the thin weight. It was designed to give a good ride with an excelent crash. Travis Barker, Ronnie Valuncci, and new zildjian artist, Joey Castillo have already added them to their set ups. The next new cymbal is another K. Its the K 22" Medium Dark Ride. It was designed with Cindy Blackman to have a ride that can be used in a large arena rock setting, and also in a small jazz setting. Also great to be crashed on. The next new cymbals are the new A Custom EFX. Similar to the ZHT effects, they come in thin weight, and in 16" and 18" diamiter. Also are new sizes to the ZHT ling. 15" and 17" Fast crashes, 13" Mastersound Hats, and the 20" Crash Ride. And finally the most intresting edition to the FX series, the new splash trash. Not the be confused the trash splash, this is much different. What I suppose they did was take a normal 16" and 18" crash and laser cut them in a spiral line and let it fall. Umass Amherst has been using the prototype in their pit, sounded very intresting. These new products will be up on their website by tomorrow or the second. Can't wait to try them out. The new 22" K Ride will deffinetly become apart of my set up.

I got to play some of the new Zildjian prototypes earlier this year during the Steve Gadd clinic tour. Some of those sound familiar. Some others must must not have made it to a production line. I certainly hope they get rid of those cymbals with all the damn holes in 'em, the world can live without those.

I'll make sure that I try these out in two weeks at NAMM and then I'll give a review of them. Thanks for the information.

I've actually been looking for a Zildjian ride I could use as a ride, maybe the Light K's are the answer, thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure all of the Zildjian rides can be used as rides. Just kidding, did you mean you're looking for a ride you can crash?

if he is, thats the ride to use, i saw a video of travis barker playing with his one arm and he was crashing on it, it sounded great. not so good on a ride though. to quiet, barely any overtones.

I've never heard of these...sounds interesting though. I'd be interested in some thinner cymbals from Zildjian. The only new things I knew about were the ZHT and the K Custom Hybrid cymbals all of which sound horrible at least the internet sound files do. I wish I lived near a store that carried new things....

yea his kit is heavily eq'd. That means nothing to what you'l hear in person.

Im also interested in this A Custom EFX line.

Yea i dont think those internet files are very accurate. I dont trust them, I just go to a store and try cymbals to compare and contrast.

As have Art Blakey, Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones and Gene Krupa in line with Zildjian's typical marketing tactics........No disrespect to these drummers meant - only to Zildjian's stupid marketing ploys!

A jazz cymbal meant for Arena rock - something like the K Custom, I suppose, where all of the endorsers got the cymbal as it was designed to be and the rest of us got an overpriced, overglorified rock ride with no lathing!

I don't mean any disrespct to you Boxcar and thank you for the info. But I do mean disrespect to a company with no personal touch whatsoever bent on fleecing us from our hard-earned dollars! And what is even funnier is that I own only own Zildjians!!

They are pretty bad about tossing names around on sticks and cymbals and such. As if trying to convice us that the modern New Beats weighing around 1050/1440g sound likethe hand hammered ones used by Gene Krupa weighing around 850/950g. I fell for it too, not knowing enough about cymbals and never having drum stores around me bought the package set of Avedis Zildjian cymbals. They aren't bad, just certainly not the fancy advertised things they go on about. I certainly wouldn't spend $500 for a 20" light ride if I wanted one. There are so many other options in Bosphorus, Istanbul, and even SABIAN. The exception being Paiste that while very nice overcharges extremely as well. Perhaps they are cheaper in Europe... It's curious how all the once major percussion companies are fading away...

Joey Castillo has moved to Zildjian! Thats a shock. I like the sound of the 24 K but yeah I think Paiste have a more exciting list for next year. And yeah cymbalrider I can get Paiste way cheaper in the UK than Zildjians. Guess cos we are closer to Paisteland

I want to live in Paisteland lol:) A traditional around here costs $374 (20"light) with 22" rides costing around $450. I'm not sure on Euro conversions but that's a lot of money here. We can get SABIANs and Bosphorus for around $300... I wonder if SABIANs are cheaper in Canada?....

My drum teacher is actually friends with the one of the Zildjian executives (director of education, I think) and because my drum teacher is also the Assistant Band Director at my local high school (Barnstable High School and if anyone's wondering, and I believe their marching band was in the 2007 catolouge, but I digress) and the Zildjian executive lent one of those trash splashes to my drum teacher and I was able to test it. It's probably the most unique sounding cymbal you'll ever hear. It sounds sorta like a mix between a gong and a china cymbal. Very unique indeed.

I you meant a ride you could crash on, another possibility would be the 21" Sweet Ride, espeically in the Brilliant Finish. I have it and it's awesome for crashing on, and it's a lot less money.

These are really becoming THE ride for this purpose. I have yet to hear a bad one.

Ohhh boy do those words ring true. I sold my 2002 20" ride for a 20" K Custom, and within a year I got rid of it. If you ask me, it has more in common with the Z line than it does the K's.
