Drum rack help please!

i am looking for a rack to buy for my drumset, and i am totally clueless as to what i should do for it. i have a double bass setup with 8 cymbals, 4 bass drum mounted toms, and 2 floor toms. what kind of rack would you suggest. thanks for any help given.

Pearl used to make a great rack. I don't know a part number but someone else may know it.

If youre made of money, look into the Marcato racks - made from graphite, so theyre light, but very strong.

Gibraltar also makes a good rack. Nice to look at, easy to add onto, and reasonably priced

The Pearl rack gets my vote. I have a DR-100. Great rack. Strong. My lead singer used to sit on it on stage. I wouldn't try that with the round tube racks. The new Pearl rack is called the Icon.

Yea man, get the pearl rack. I had the chance to see one at a Tom Lee in Vancouver and it looked very sturdy.

If you go Pearl get the 503 Icon rack. They make both straight and curved bars. I use one and it's heavy duty s***.

Yeah, I also have the Pearl ICON DR503 rack. Solid as a rock, easily adjustable, just a really great rack.

I have the Pearl icon 503c rack. It was the best move I ever made. You'll snap a tom holder in half before you break or bend this rack. I tried a gibralter rack that a friend had recently and it was mickey mouse junk compared to the Icon.

I have two of them. DW didn't "adopt" the rack because it wasn't up to snuff; it's the best rack I've ever owned, including Pearl (although I've never owned an "Icon" version).

The clamps are top-notch. They will hold even a large 16" rack tom, no problem.

That's funny how you say DW didn't "adopt" the PDP rack. Now DW has come out with their rack and it's exactly the same except it has DW cymbal arms and the DW nameplate. All the other pieces have the same part #'s. Oh, and it added some carpet spikes.

I'm the master of articulation, LOL.

What I mean to say was.....it's a DW rack in disguise; if it weren't a good rack, DW wouldn't have "adopted" it.

I have the both the older stainless version, and the newer alloy version.

The rack is made of tubular steel, the clamps are made from forged aluminum (they look like they were machined from a billet). How would that make it heavier than a Gilbraltar? The PDP clamps are in fact heavier, but that's a benefit, rather than a detriment.

I don't own either a PDP or Gibraltar, but I'm curious, how can having a heavier clamp on a round tube be advantageous? Surely if part of the clamp is heavier than one on the other it will be detrimental - I'm not 100% sure of the design on the clamps, but if they're anything like the Pearl ones then there will be a part projecting away from the clamp. If that weighs more on one than the other surely it would cause the clamp to slip?

Bear in mind I'm not trying to start an argument here, just curious as to how a heavier clamp can be more advantageous than a lighter clamp.

Back to the thread topic, I've got a Pearl DR503 Icon, it's awesome, truly awesome. My only qualm with it is that sometimes my clamps get "stuck" - they're easily freed up again though and the positioning possibilities are endless. Only other downside is I was using 2 of the PCL100 clamps that attach to the top of the upstands and I've lost the plugs now I've gone down to using only one of the PCL100's, so I have a redundant PCL100. Anyone want to trade for one of the plugs that sits on top of the uprights?

No problem. English is honest to God my first language, but I'm often reiterating my points here, LOL.

I was speaking more to the design of the hinge than the clamps actual weight.

The Pearl racks I had used stamped steel clamps. Good design, because they were square. Try getting one in a small town, though.

The Gibraltar rack I had ("Power" series) used cast clamps. They were thin and would not support my toms. I ended up purchasing "Road Series" clamps. They look like forged or machined aluminum. Costly mistake.

Of the two PDP racks I have, both have forged/machined clamps, with hinges that do not flex or slip. Are they "heavier"? Probably, but they also support a 16x16 9 ply Beech shell, no problem....with no memory lock assistance.
