Hey all. Below i have posted a sample of a blast beat, and what just wondering the tempo of it was. The reason im asking, is because it seems that most blasts are this tempo, and i want my blasts to sound like this, rather than just doing a single stroke really really fast. Also, if anyone could write out what they think it looks like, i would appreciate it greatly thanks a lot.

Sounds like it's just at like 210 maybe. Listen to some Hate Eternal and some NILE for the REALLY fast stuff.

You're very welcome.
Basically all you can do to get your blast speed up is practice your singles. I have my regular blasts up to about 215 and my corpse grind blast at about 230. I can gravity blast with my right hand at 400 bpm eighth notes. PRACTICE YOUR SINGLES!!!!

Nah man. Derek Roddy and George Kollias are WAY better for blasts, and their triggers dont sound like crap either.

I probably won't kill you. (No garentees)
But a vid would be awesome, aim the camera from behind or something.

My Metrenome says just under 220 cant really hear the bassdrums
Try practice single footing this and practice with the metrenome

ok i took a vid and the camera is aimed from behind me at the snare. It's really rough b/c i was cold and not warmed up or anything. My dad just needs to get the cable to hook up the camera to the comp and then i'll upload it to my youtube.

If you wanna hear some really clean blast beats then just listen to some of Goatwhore's newer stuff from the album "A Haunting Curse" Yeah it's confusing to a lot of people apparently how to cowardinate your feet and your hands like that, but it's simple enough, it's just getting faster is what makes it hard.

Well, maybe you should warm up first? : ) It will make a hell of a difference when you play! Also, you could take a vid from the front and zoom in and focus on just your hands.
Peace

P.S. Dont you already have a vid (http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22373) with your face clearly visible? ; )

I was actually thinking about asking everyone here about that. i'm sure it's just another heel-toe thing. i'm up to 200 with flatfoot so i'm happy.

I don't get what the big deal is about single-footing blasts? Personally, I use both feet to blast 8th-notes (as I'm sure quite a few drummers do) ... and I only single foot blast beats when they're under 200BPM. I've been to the Derek Roddy forums and read a thread about blast speeds - most said they could go to ~ 240BPM max, but since they only intend on single footing them, they post their single-foot speed, usually around 195-200BPM. Seems kinda wasteful to me.
Don't get me wrong, guys like Roddy, George Kollias, Tony Laureano and others who blast single-footed still manage to sound killer, as do those who blast double-footed ... I just don't buy into the whole "OMG U SHOOD BLAST WIV ONE FOOT COZ ITLL MAKE U MOAR KVLT!!111" malarkey.

Is the "standard" blast beat just RLRLRL between the snare and hh/ride with the foot following the right hand? Never understood...

Well, drumming in most metal songs (unfortunately) consists of 2 phases: the blast beat, and then the-double-bass-drum-roll-under-the-bell-on-the-8th-notes-and-snare-on-the-2-and-4 thing. And, of course, intermittent fills, Even if you single foot the blast beats, you're still going to have to play twice as fast when the double bass drum roll beat is used, so you may as well single foot the blasts to build up endurance on your weaker foot.

I'm surprised nobody suggested this already, it seems really obvious to me, but why don't you just wear a mask?
