View Full Version : Selfmade Bass Drum Practice Pad
I'm not thaat much into drum making to actually build a drum but I can at least make something related to drum. Other day i saw some old pics where old masters like Chapin, Morello and others are sitting and using these really old bass drum practice pads. I thought ''hey thei doesn't look manufactured rather hand-made, maybe I can save few bucks :) and make one for me... now I have quiet idea how I'll make the body of pad but I'm not sure what kind of rubber or silicon to put on for more real bass drum feel?
I want to hear any advices, pleaswe!
i've said it once, i'll say it again.....
i have a large round pillow. it works really well and it was free. try it.
(the pillow doesn't have to be round, or big....)
just get something thats not loud and put it n front of your pedal, it's not rocket science....

Mmmmm i dont really think so, a pillow for a bass drum has very very little rebound and at that any real feel to it, the giabralter pad is very highly spoken upon, but you want to save money, so, there was a thread a while ago about an idea for this. He got like a slipper sole or somthing and put it in the clamp of the pedal and inverted the beater, now i cant remember who it was but they did say it gave a great feel. Other than that, using normal practice pads doesnt work (ive tried, and i have lots of different pads) they are all too hard, so if you come up with a great idea, let us know.

usually i'd argee with you, but honestly it's pretty much the same feel for me, maybe a little less rebound...i do tune my bass pretty loose, but you might be surpised...i was looking for a bass drum practice pad a while ago and i found this just prefect, if you've tried this, then sorry, if not then.........give it a try, you've nothing to lose, if you dont like it - go buy something.

mmm i have tried, it was one of the first things i tried, and i tried several pillows but they all just seemed terrible to me, you must have an awesome pillow! Is it a brand name pillow?
