Ok so christmas is finally here (few hours away) or maybe already happened already. (I know right now everyone in Europe is sleeping and getting ready to wake up to their drums under the trees) Now I know everyone will be clogging the thread server with new threads about what they got for christmas so i decided to make a thread dedicated for just posting what you got for christmas (drum gear. i dont care if you got new big brown tube socks - remember this is the Drum Gear section of the forum) .

Post away fellow drummers and Merry Christmas/Happy Hannuka/Happy Kwanza

Well, we had already christmas yesterday (24th) evening. and I got moooney, so I can pay the rest of the money my parents for the Basix Custom which was actually the biiig christmas present.

hahaha, and actually I said to myself: "You won`t buy something for drumming again."

.....but should I tell you: I WILL. As soon as possible, another ride, maybe the Zildjian Breakbeat Ride...I`d use it as the total important third ride cymbal. :-)
or I save even more money and buy a K Custom Left Side Ride 22". This would be the total important second Ride.

bye for now...and merry christmas, hannuka and ... Kwanza

Well, I gots me a set of custom octobans. Theyre black sparkle with gold sparkle, and they should be here any day now. All maple octobans with 18"&17" depths.

With the $600 or so that ive accumulated through my job and Christmas money, im going to get two new crashes (trade in from Paiste Dimensions Light Ride) and two new chinas, a few clamps, a few boom arms to hold em all, hopefully some in ear monitors, and I may pick up an exotic stave shell. Im thinking something like Padouk, Cocobola, or Hawaiin (sp?) Koa; if I get that shell, a free floating systems going over it.

My new Saludas are my Christmas present.

18" Mist-X medium crash
16" Diamond thin crash

I've been playing on them more and more and I swear every day they sound better. Jamie told me to hold on to the Diamond for a little while to see if it sweetens up and it is. I've already decided to go with a complete set of Saludas for my kit and sent off an email describing what I'd like in each piece. So in a couple months hopefully I'll be adding many more Saludas to my setup. I'm thinking of 15" Mist-X hats, 16" and/or 17" Mist-X crash, 20" or 21" Mist-X ride, 14" Diamond crash, 22" Diamond ride, and possibly a 20" Emperor ride. I'd also like to get a splash but I'm not sure from what series. I got a nice Christmas bonus from work and just sold a photo montage print to a friend of mine so he could use it as a Christmas present for his dad, so I have like $450 extra right now to put towards new cymbals and stuff. Woo! I'd also like to have a complete Zildjian set though mixed with As and Ks. Decisions decisions! I think Saluda will come first.

I also got a little percussion set to share with my kids.

You gotta love Christmas!
The only thing I wish I could have gotten was a pair of drumsticks. Even though they're small and relatively cheap theres nothing like the smell and feel of brand new sticks!
I gotta say this one more time because I won't be able to it for one more year:
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Set of nice Headphones with the metronome click built into them, and a Zildjian stick bag.

and about $200 in gift certificates to the local music store, not one of those big neighborhood killing evil mega stores : )

Had alot more on my list but ya know how it goes. Now I have to try and decide on a Ride but will most likely have to save up a little more to get the one I want.

I've never heard a ride cymbal with a washy bell before, it's actually pretty awesome and unique now that I think about it.

For drum stuff, all I ended up with was a pair of sticks -Promark 727s- and a few CDs, inc. 2 Krupa/Rich CDs (one I already have) and one called "Big Band Swing-Don Lawrence and his Orchestra". I'm liking them so far. My big present was a CD player for my truck. I also got a gift certificate to the local music store. I might use it on a vintage Zildjian crash I saw in there a few days ago, if it's still there. Then with the money I got plus leftover money I didn't use for buying my family gifts, I might pick out another new cymbal, or possibly get back in touch with Jamie and get a few more Saludas...*evil laugh*...

I sold my old CB drum kit and my Planet Z cymbals, and with that money and the cash I had, I bought a pair of ZBT hats (a step up from planet z's, and they will hold me over until I can afford better) and a 22 inch Sabian HH Manhattan Ride with rivets. 150 dollars for the Manhattan Ride...best deal and best ride ever. I got a nice big stick bag for all my giging needs but more importantly I finally have enough money for a new kit. Alls I have to do now is pick (not easy with the lack of near by drum shops) Mapex saturn or starclassic b/b are the only two I could narrow down even tho those acrylic ddrums look nice

I've heard bad things about acrylic drums, but that was from someone who doesn't really know what they're talking about, so who knows. I don't know much about the starclassics, but I've got an M Birch kit, and if the Saturns are a step up from that, they're wonderful, no doubt.

Mine sounds good: sharp and quick with a nice pitch, perhaps the decay time could be a bit shorter (maybe I won't notice this as much once I incorporate it into my regular setup), but overall very pleased.
Very good value for money, but apparently there isnt a consistent sound to them so its best to try them out if you can before buying and pick the exact one you like.

Hope I helped in some way...?

Sweet, where did you get it? I been thinking of getting this also since all my other cymbals are 2oo2's except the hats. My local store has a 24" 2oo2 for $275 but I think I like the sound of the 20" better, although it's hard to tell sometimes. Picking a ride is the toughest thing for me to do, so tough infact that I still use my Sabian B8...LOL

Still using that B8 eh haha. Whatever works for you mate. Ever checked out the Zildjian K Ride?

Anyways, back to the Paiste. I love the 20" crash. I picked it up from my local shop today. COMPLETELY IMPULSIVE! I saw it....saw it was $295 brand new, took my credit card out and bought it. I've heard the 24" crash as well in person and it sounds real good too, but the 20" was perfect, not too much over tone. Solid choice. The 22" is also a beautiful crash. But I whole heartedly recommend this crash. Good luck in your decision.

Yeah I know right... I need to make up my mind. I bought my hats easily enough and my crashes were a great deal but for some reason I am having a hard time in choosing a ride. I mean it's not like if I don't like it I can't sell it and get another one...LOL.

Thanks for the info

No worries, hope I was able to help. But I know what you mean. I have two rides and use both as a crash and also my K as the main ride, but it took me forever and I wouldn't part with my AA Rock Ride, but sooner or later you'll find something.

Well, I already posted this in the off-topic Christmas thread, but since this is strictly drum gear I suppose I'll repost:

Up until now the only cymbals I've had were the Meinl MCS's that came with my kit, so I got some upgrades:

14" K Light hats
20" K Custom Hybrid ride
24" K Light ride

Those two rides sound surprisingly good together.

EDIT: Unfortunately I didn't get a digital camera for Christmas, so no pics at the moment.

This is my favorite thread.

First, I got some Vic Firth stereo isolation headphones. It's pretty fun to play along to my favorite tunes, but the annoying thing is, it makes my drums sound really fat and deep. A nice thing for the toms and bass but I don't like the mega-fat snare sound.

Next, I got a Paiste 20" 505 ride. The bad part is it's shipped to my house but I'm on vacation til Saturday, so I don't get to play it yet. I will as soon as I get home, though, and add some pics.

I also bought myself a stick bag and some VF rutes. I was going to go for an 18" Paiste Traditionals China I heard and fell in love with, but that one's gonna take some saving. (300 smackers!)
