if you want a pearl reference, i would say deal. But i would not want one, so for me it would be No Deal. I think your starclassic deal is still a better deal.

Elvis,
I got caught in traffic last night on the way home. I missed your radio show. I was bummed.
Any place else you can be heard on the web?
How about this Mapex Orion 2003
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260067616600&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1
What do you think?
It already ran a complete listing and wasn't sold. Just relisted at the same price.
I am heavily leaning towards the Starclassics though!
Thanks

I am supposed to be getting a copy of it today, so when I post it, i will certainly let you know.
As far as the Mapex goes, I dont know much about them, honestly. That's a really pretty kit though and i have heard nothing but goos things about Mapex. I like the color too.
I guess for me, i was somewhat lucky. In that really most other kits in the same price range did not attract me -- it was pretty much the DW and starclassic. However there are a LOT of good kits out there for that money -- the Orion and Reference being two without a doubt. If your gut is telling you Starclassics, then go that way -- you would not be disappointed.
If you find your way to vegas, you can play mine as long as you want.

I say good deal. I think the Reference is an amazing line and that 2100$ is a great price for a 5 peice.

I usually get up to Vegas a couple of times a year with the wife. Next time I go, I will message you and see if you are playing. The wife and I always go to see bands play while we are there. Either at the lounges or clubs.
However, the last thing you need is a 36 year old, 6' 4", 300 lb guy with 3 years experience banging on your beauties!!!!
Thanks for all your help. I am trying to get my wife to go to GC with me tomorrow to "LOOK" at the 2 finishes I like on the Starclassics.

trust me -- you got a couple inches on me, but thats about it. ;)
If you go to GC, bring your camera -- we want to see what you are looking at.
and if you do make it out to vegas, and my cover band happens to be playing, prepare to sit in for a song or two.

Elvis,
I just got my quote for the Starclassics in the Diamond Dust Wrap.
$2017 dollars for the following:
22 x 18, 8 x 7, 10 x 8, 12 x 9, 13 x 10, 16 x 14 and 18 x 16.
I can get it in any of the other colors as well. The red fade (the one I want the most) doesn't have all the toms in stock, and I would have to wait until at least April for the others.
My Vinnie Paul snare isn't going to fit very well. I will just keep it hidden!

I talked to him at work.
I am going to head there tomorrow after work with the wife (I hope).
I will later add the 14 floor tom to it as well for about 300.
I am very excited.
I am still curious about the Reference and Mapex. The Mapex guy is emailing me constantly. I think I can negotiate quite a bit. My heart though, is with the Starclassics though!

well, sometimes when people are really desperate to dump things is when you are going to get yoru best deal. But, then agian, you are going to spend a lot of money on your dream kit -- buy what will really make you happy.

Hey,
FatElvis, I'll be in LV on 1/12 - 1/15, love to check out your band, and meet another DW forum member face to face!
If your interested, pm me where you'll be playin' (if you are) that weekend, and if you don't mind, I'd love to check it out!

cool. I would like to hook up as well. I doubt my cover band will be playing as it is barely a band at this point, but my original band -- jesus or a gun -- very well might be playing. i will defenately PM you.

The Mapex kit is beautiful. But Mapex no longer makes that color. I would need to purchase an 8" tom for it, so it would be hard to find.
I just listened to all four of your songs (all the way though mind you, not just a piece) and I will say that I really enjoyed the songs. Your drumming is fresh and has lots of groove to it. The singer is REALLY good. His choruses are very catchy. He has a voice that can be used in many gernres.
I like your snare sound. Did you record that with the Chad or the Pork Pie?
