Hello guys, i'm looking for a maple kit and happened to come across this offer for a 8",10",12",14",16" 2x22", 14"snare and 12"secondary-snare plus bassdrum pedals, hi-hat stand and a couple of boom/cymbal stands for a total of AUD$3299. Do you guys think this is worth it? (No cymbals included) It's in a black sparkle finish.
I'm really looking at a serious FULL MAPLE kit and hopefully with virgin bassdrums (unfortunately the sonor 3005 doesn't have virgin bass drums) as i intend to mount all cymbals and toms plus various other accessories on a rack system.
Comments or advice please ?

I have a similar setup with my Sonor 3005 in red maple. 8,10,12 rack toms, 14, 16 floor toms w/legs, 22x17.5 kick. 14 & 12 snares. From what you said, it seems pretty close to what I paid for mine brand new $3600.00 US dollars). What I would do is price the kit you want with a local retailer and compare that price with the used price of this kit. If the new kit is not too far off from what the used kit is selling for, by all means, buy the new one. But, if the used one is way under and in good condition, then get the used kit.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

OK, you have $3300 to spend on a kit and you're looking at a 3005? At Drumtek (in Melbourne) until maybe the end of January you can pick up a Mapex Saturn with 10", 12", 14", 16", 22" and 14" snare, with hardware for about $2700 if my memory serves me correctly. You could probably get them to throw in a 12" snare and 8" tom for a little more than your $3300 mark, and add another 1 or 2 hundred and they'll upgrade you to a double kick.
Also, the Mapex has a non-penetrating and removable tom mount on the kick, so it's really a virgin. Also the shells are far superior to the 3005's, and are 4 outer plies of rock maple with 2 inner plies of walnut.
I think $3300 for a 3005 is a bit too steep, even if it is a 9 piece. I don't recommend it at all. Just remember, quality over quantity.

i would echo ozzy's argument. Although i am unsure of the exchange rate, the $3000+ range is no place for a 3005. They are great kits, mind you, but there are some far better kits for that price range (the saturn being one of them). I would pass, personally, and look to get a pro level kit with your money.

You may actually be looking a bit more than that for the Saturn, Ozzy Biz...
10 12 14 16 22 14 kit w/hardware = $3299rrp
8" tom - $269rrp
extra 22 kick - $959rrp
extra P750 pedal - $199rrp
AC901+ TH684 (clamp and arm) for 8" tom - $120.90rrp
12x7 snare - (black panther) - $299rrp
TOTAL = $5145.90
Realistically, that deal can probably be done for around $4100, but even with a generous 25% off the whole deal, the Saturn equivalent is still going to run you over $3800.
$3300 for the force 3005 setup is not a bad price, and you may be able to push them down for cash. Also, the Saturn (although it has nice colours) is not available in a Black Sparkle - The closest would be the Cherry Red Sparkle) - So if you really liked that colour, there isnt much to choose from at that level of the game.

Wow...dude, I think you overpaid for what you got. I have the same set up, minus the 12" snare, and I paid under 2K Canadian brand new. At the local store here, you could have purchased a 7 pc S-Class Pro for almost that amount.
Not sure what AUS fund translates to CDN funds but I have a 7 piece and I definately paid under 2K USD for my 3005.
fyi, $3299 AUD translates to about $2590 US, so it's better than it sounds...

I forgot to mention that I also purchased DW pedals (9000 dbl) 900 hi-hat, Sabian AAX 8,10,12 splash, 14, 16 china, 13 fusion hats, 20 heavy ride 16 and 17 aaxplosion crashes Tama throne and 6 multi clamps w/long cym booms PLUS cases for all. The drum price was also around 2k US dollars just for the drums and hardware that comes with the stage 2 kit. total for all was about 3600.00 us dollars. I mearly stated that the price he was given (in AUS dollars) was pretty fair for the amount of equipment he was going to get.
Sorry for any misrepresentation.
For a mid level drumkit the I am truly impressed with the Sonor Force 3005. I have had top of the line kits in the past (Tama Granstar, Tama Artstar, Premier Signia) All I needed to do is get the right drumheads that complement the shells for the tone that I want. I use Remo Ambassadors on the bottom and Remo Emperers on the batter side. Tune the resonant head a littler higher than the batter, and all is good.

Yeah totally the Mapex is the way to go mate! it makes more since. i always found 3 rack toms is better for metal then 4, but hey! your set up man.
The 3005 sound great, but they are freaking HEAVY drums from what i have heard.

Just remember something when buying sonor, that i havelearnt first hand.
Sonor have a horrendous mark up over cost of their products, most shops wont tell you this, but they can offer at least a 30% discount and still make a fairly reasonably profit.
Use this to your advantage, padawan.

I can tell you from DAILY experience that this is completely untrue, at least in Australia.

This may not mean a whole lot, but I was looking at a 5 piece 3005 kit yesterday and the store was asking $1075 Canadian Dollars (with the usual hardware package). They had the 2005 kit as well for about 200 less.
