OK guys, what band or musician has recently become your listening obsession? You know, that one where you have to go out and drain your bank account on to get all their stuff? As of late, I have being listening to Symphony X. I am not much of a metal head, but I really like the stuff these guys have put out.
TV On The Radio. you know a band is good when David Bowie sings backing for them

Floggin Molly. It's the christmas season and in my family the drinking season aswell, so what better music to listen to than some good ol irish drinking music in a punk style?

I like the Rapture's funky music.
Apart from that, I've been constantly listening to the new Muse album.

Muse's lastest albums is amazing, as well as Strapping Young Lad's.
Yes... two very different styles, but I believe both drummers are ambidextrous? I know Gene Hogland is, but I'm not sure about the drummer for Muse (Dominic Howard) (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:wsjv7ip3g78r). I know he's a lefty though...

Anyways, I've been listening to a hell of a lot of COG and Karnivool lately. They're two of the best things going in the Australian music industry at the moment. Awesome drumming. I think they're both independent (?) and COG has sold over 25,000 copies of they're album in Australia. They're in the states now I think (bass player's VISA was delayed or something) to record a new album with Sylvia Massia (?...can't remember last name) who recorded and produced a heap of TOOL and System of a Down stuff.

Back on topic... ive been listiing to alot of DJ Shadow(Endtroducing, Pre- Metative Attack) mostly but I bought the new Brand New cd so ive been getting into that also.

Protest the Hero is quite possibly the perfect band for me.
I probably sound like a broken record since I hype them on here every chance I get, but they are truely incredible, and their live show is the best I've ever seen.

fav new band. I have about 100, because most of my bands that I listen to are considered "new". I really like the drumming on the new "all that remains" album. great band, and drummer(s) (yes, they are juggling between 2 drummers.) First I discovered Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. Then I had to get everything on the Daptone label. The Mighty Imperials and the Sugarman 3 are especially good. If you like that old-school soul sound, you can't go wrong with any of these albums. Sugarman 3's "Sugar's Boogaloo" is my favorite right now.

Technically not a band.
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page Unplugged ('Unledded'). I got this for Christmas and have listened to it a few times, more so recently and there are some real gems here. The updated versions of 'Kashmir' and 'The Battle of Evermore' in my opinion are far, far superior to the original recordings; for instance the Mandolin in the latter sounds wonderful, it's impossible to describe. There's some really great musicians on this record and the quality of recording is nothing short of phenomenal. The energy is great, the arrangements are great and the experiments nearly all pay off. I'm not a big Zeppelin fan, but I really like this. Check it out if you get a chance.

Sum 41. I love their album "Chuck" and "Does this look infected?", but i thought their first album "All killer no Filler" was absolutley horrible. Im not much of a fan of the thier album "Underclass Hero" (although i do like that song).
I also like Rise Agaisnt. They are great cuz they have that angry Rage against the machine feel without being to metally.

Umphrey's McGee is the greatest. They're not a metal band as you might have guessed from the name, they're rock and jam band. They're kind of similar to Phish but are amazing and can play basically anything, and still keep their own originality. I might just seem like I'm glorifying them or something but seriously, they're amazing. They have hard rock songs, funky songs, country, blues, everything.
Check them out, see a show, buy "Anchor Drops" the album, and you will be amazed.

If you like AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, the Angels or any real Aussie Rock n' Roll, check out Airborne. They are really putting the balls back into rock. I saw them a couple of months back at a college function. I think Rolling Stone gave their debut album 4 or 4.5 stars and they just signed an international deal with Roadrunner Records. They're touring the world early next year I think. Do yourself a favour and check them out

No, they are still a band and get together occasionally. Thier 3rd album "California" was released about 4 years ago. Each album is extremely different from the previous. Mike Patton has so much on his plate when it comes to his music and many different projects that when he gets together with Bungle, its always amazing. New album is rumored to be released in the fall of 2008.

It seems like a lot of people dislike their new album, as was the case with ACLOTM. I like how they've progressed and refined their sound. They can't stay the "SCIENCE" Incubus forever! A Kiss to Send us Off is one of their best songs yet and the part between the bridge and last Chorus is one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. I am a bit biased though :0 Peace.

Trail of Dead are a cool band. Lately I've been getting into Terry Reid. Yeah, he's not new (late 60's early 70's) but he was the guy Page wanted to sing for Zep but because of prior commitments, Reid couldn't do it for at least a year, so Reid recommended Plant for the gig. Anyway, I've been listening to a compilation album of his called Superlungs. The drummer on it is a young Alan White and it kicks serious butt. Also, listening to this album I realized that Jack White isn't quite so ahead of his time after all.

Right after the release of Peeping Tom's debut, Henry Rollins did an interview with Mike Patton and asked about Mr. Bungle. Mike said that Bungle is alive and strong and that he needed to tour with P.T. a bit, then Bungle was going back to the studio. He was hoping for a new release in the fall of 08.

...They actually toured in Traverse City Michigan on their first tour or so and i got to see them at a REALLY tiny club. holy heck. tremonti's rack gear looked like a christmas tree on roids it had so many lights. scott phillips did a great job behind the kit as usual i'm sure, although he did jack up a big fill...cant remember the song exactly (listening to the album now though)...i do also remember he had one of those cool "Kickers" under his throne...i bet those are cool to have. dude i was so close i gave myles and mark knuckles and i actually got a pick from the bass player brian.

They've been around for a little while, but mostly underground. I saw them open for Nile and I was completely blown away. Tons of crazy energy and a great sound (if you're into metal).

I have recently got into Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Lupe Fiasco ect: but I've been mainly listening to The Seatbelts. They are an extensively musically diverse big band, that does the music for the show Cowboy Bebop. They are excellent. Some of the most exciting music I've heard in a long time.
Two favorite tracks from them:

Evile.
I found them before the mass did, before Rock Band.
I found them by accident off of a Megadeth vid comment.
So I checked them out and it was only 1 song by them, and it had 17 views.
Now their entire album is up and all have 10-100k views.
I'm a proud (and original) fan!
OH HELL YEAH EVILE! Im an original fan too. They are so good and remind me of Sodom circa 89. Municipal Waste is the other band I forgot to mention!

Not a new band, but the album that's been getting played a lot the last month or so is "Killing Peace" by Onslaught. An absolutely storming album with lyrics that'd make Kerry King proud, lol.
I've also been playing Carcass' last album, "Swansong" quite a bit, too - I just love how they've made it rocky and yet so brutal at the same time.
Evile are pretty good too, a lad I worked with got me into them last August; proper old-school thrash - can't beat it. Not heard any Municipal Waste, I'll have to go on a search when I get home.

Omar LOVES his dissonance. It had to grow on me, truthfully, but now I can't get enough of it.
I highly suggest checking out De-loused in the Comatorium, and after that, Francis the Mute. They are earlier releases with their previous drummer Jon Theodore, but by no means is his playing anything less than great. They do some really cool things with heavy latin rhythms. De-loused is definitely my favorite. And Flea plays bass on this one, which is awesome.

Recently for me it's been Hot Chip.
After seeing them play at work, and having heard their singles played at club nights, i got their albums and im HOOKED!
As for The Mars Volta, well they're the best band in the world to me. Frances is my favourite album ever, i actually think their 2 most recent ones are their weakest, but their still high in my favourite albums list.
Get Frances The Mute.

Zimmers Hole!!!!!
Best new metal band out there.
It has three out of four strapping young lad members. Jed simon(guitar), byron stroud(bass), and the one and only legend of metal Gene Hoglan(drums). and for vocals it has Chris Valagao. Producing the vocals for the record though was none other then Devin townsend. They have three albums out, and there newest and best one is When you were shouting at the devil....we were in league with satan.

Billet-Deux!!!! i heard one of their songs on sirius-xm's Real Jazz channel, and i was hooked!!! There like some crazy italian jazz group consisting of a cello(!!!), a violin(!!!), a guitar, and drums. They are AMAZING. Anything with cello's and violins usually blow me away, but this is on an even higher level.
Doubt anyone has ever heard of them before tho.
