A couple of days ago I finally got my new AA 17'' crash.
When I struck it, I was expecting an explosive and a long lasting sound. But in my eyes, as a crash, it sounded like crap!
Allmost like a good old Camber 18 crash\ride ( my friend has one). I am
very dissapointed, because I was expecting a Chad Smith kinda sound!
Are all AA Crashes like this?
My friend and I ordered cymbals together and his 18'' Medium Crash is allmost just as dead! No sustain!
Is this normal, or are we just unlucky? Please answer!

Hmm well first of all a dumb buy since you didn't really try them out. But i have an AA medium-thin crash and i love it. I;ve never heard of someone compare an AA to a Camber, but i guess you'll have to send them back or something. What kind of music do you play?

First og all, I got them dirt cheap, compared to the prices in my country ( Norway).
I spent 200 $ on them, whitch is cheap if you look at the prices around here: 400$!
That is why I had nothing to lose! I can just sell it for ca. 250$ in a couple of months anyway ( I saw a used one go for 300 two weeks ago)
So that is not a problem.
Well, I woudl not say it is as bad as a Camber, but not far from it. This I think is sad!
I play everything form jazz to punk ( leaning against the punk side). So I play most kind of things. Tryin to be versatile!

Not something I've ever heard of, a cast cymbal with no "sustain" as you put it. My HHX's all sound great and my AAX Studio cymbal also sounded great, however it wasn't as loud and didn't ring as much. If you have the studio cymbal they are a bit more dead than the stage equivalent or some of the other cymbals in the line, but no means do they sound anything like Camber.

I have a 16'' AAX studio, and that one is great! But the AAX and the AA line is very different, I know that now... The AA one does not ring at all.
It is axtually not too bad as a ride cymbal, so I can use it as a crash\ride... Or I could sell it...

I have a regular finish AA 16" thin crash from the mid 1980s. Mine seems to have quite a bit of sustain and wash. I'm not really a huge Sabian fan personally, so I'm not all that crazy about its sound. But, there is plenty of sustain and wash in my thin crash and is somewhat "dark" sounding. Is this crash you just got a regular finish or brilliant. Is it possible that the brilliant finish took out some of the sustain? I used to own some brilliant Sabian 14" hi-hats and they were "dead" sounding to me, so I'm speculating that that could possibly be the reason for less sustain in the crashes you've used? If yours is a regular finish, then I have no idea why yours would be so lifeless.

My Sabian AA 17" Thin Crash sounds great, probably the best cymbal I have out of many. So no, they do not all sound bad. Peace.
