That bop classic looks gorgeous. Now I don't know if I want to buy the Catalina Maple or that baby.. that ivory marine pearl finish... g'dayum. awful pricey though.

MSRP of $1075 for a six piece w/ hardware?? Hardly......that'll go for about $700 ish at guitar center...that's not bad at all....

probably another "asian maple" kit, like the Yamaha Tour Customs

The Gretsch site quotes the three-piece Bop kit for a retail of $2615.
Expensive? Yes
Hopefully it'll end up at SamAsh, GC, or Musiciansfriend for less, but I wonder how much they'd take off the price.

The Catalina Maple is priced very well, but I dig smaller, vintage looking kits.. not the modernish kits with the odd fades.

thats the one thintg i have yet to understand about the world of drumming..

why someone would pay 3k for a 4 piece kit that probably sounds just as good as a 6 piece for 1500....

beyond me.

but then again i dont understand why sticks cost so much...

Wow, I like the new finish. I wish I could exchange my catalina maple with that one. :D

Beats me too why sticks costs a lot. They should be $2 a pair, max.

Because 99% of the time it doesn't sound as good. If $1500 kits sound just as good as $3000 kits, the why do more experienced and endorsed players choose the more expensive kit?

The cheaper kit may seem better value for money, and it may even come close to the sound of the more expensive kit, but in all but few cases the $3k kit will outshine the cheap kit.

I just bought the only bebop classic
