I have chosen a Pearl drumset once I sell mine, I just need help with Cymbals, I can get Planet Z's, Paiste 101's, or Pearl Pro... which do y'all reccomend?

These options are based on price not on quality...

none. theyre not worth what you spend on them. go fish for some scimitars or edge or something.

no kidding? really?

hah. sorry, these cymbals are pretty horrid -- there really is nothing redeaming about them. What is your budget? Lots of smart cats on here that can point you the way. I cant stress enough how good used cymbals are. My opinion is that used cymbals are always -- ALWAYS -- better than new. Not only are they much cheaper, but a cymbal usually will only show its real character after years of playing.

yeah he's right... but if youre really that tight on your budget i really suggest fishing around for some used Edges and Scimitars [of course theyre used, theyve been discontinued a long time ago]. theyre whats supposed to be zbt's back then but theyre much better than zbt's now. fishing for used paiste stuff would be great too.

I'll try that... I have to keep ride, crash, and hi-hat around $75-150

Hmm...Yeah, to be honest, I don't think you can get too much for that price. You might be stuck with some planet Z's. It's not the end of the world though. They came with my starter set, and I played on them for a while. Although they certainly didn't sound great, they're good enough to learn on and you can replace them one by one as you can.

But you said you're selling an old set. What cymbals do you have with that one?

I have Percussion Plus Cymbals w/ a Percussion Plus set, I haven't had enough money for an upgrade yet...

To be honest, I don't know a whole lot about those, but I see they're made by Paiste, right? I'm guessing they're a starter set of cymbals. If it were me, I wouldn't waste my money upgrading from one starter set of cymbals to another. I'd hang onto those cymbals, and instead sink the $75-150 into getting yourself a nice set of hi-hats, which are probably the cymbals you'll hit the most. There are several decent ones on ebay in that price range, or you might check your local drum store too. Then, as you get some more money, you can upgrade the other cymbals one by one.

You'd be amazed at the difference in sound btw a good set of hats and a cheap one. But I doubt the difference btw your Percussion Plus and the other starter sets would be that noticable.

but a Pearl EXR is much better than a Percussion Plus, I was going to sell my set and my cymbals and throne, so I have to buy everything new...

i think mandion was referring to the cymbal set, not the drumset.

I would recommend that you don't buy an Export.

I too would recommend not buying the Export. I would, however, recommend the Yamaha Rydeen or, if you can stretch to it, a Stage Custom.

how much are these kits? I need to get everything for less than $800 or if need be, $900...

Yeah, exactly. Thanks, Syaoran. Unless there's some reason why you can't, I'd suggest selling the drumset to finance your new set, but hanging on to the cymbals.

You know what else: I agree with Chip too. The Export runs $700-900, depending on the model you get. And it's made of poplar. For that same price, you could get yourself into some Gretch Catalinas (maple or birch), Mapex birch, Sonor Force 2005 (birch), or a Ddrum Dominion maple. Personally, I think all these are superior to the Pearl, if for no other reason, because they're made of better quality wood. Wouldn't you guys all agree?

I'd check into these if I were you. You can check online stores like musiciansfriend or guitarcenter, or you can check out some local drum stores. Put a little more research into it and you'll end up with a product you'll be much happier with.

I looked into the ones before you added more, the Yamaha Stage Custom with Zildgian ZXT Cymbals is in my price range... is this better?

I will look into these other sets, thanks...

Since I couldn't find a thread about Pearl Cymbals and I don't want to take the liberty to start yet another thread I thought I'd post my question in this thread:
I have a 20" ride, a 16" crash that came with my second hand set, and I've just bought a 6 or 7" CX-500 bell for €10 from a guy on the internet. What are your opinions on these cymbals? I have no money at all, so I can't go for a €300 ride by Sabian, Paiste or Zildjan as you would probably all recommend me, but I am just curious for you opinions. The crash sounds really soft compared to my other crashes (Wuhan Rock Crash, Stagg Brilliant Hammered Crash), I don't know if that's the quality or just the type of crash. Please give your reactions :)

try to find second hand top-of-the-line cymbals. They sound much better when they are second hand, because only after some time will a cymbal show what its really made of. try www.craigslist.com for some cheap cymbals, used and brand new.

I suggest you get a Yamaha Rydeen with either some cheap new or, if you can find them, some better used cymbals and when you go gigging, rent or borrow some from a friend. This should tide you over till you can get something more worthwhile
