New Evans blue heads

I just changed my heads on my toms last night.From the factory Sonor's to the Evans blue hydraulics they sound pretty dead,mind you I havent spent anytime adjusting and retuning.Any advice?Should I go with the g-2.Im lookin for more of big deep rock sound.the drums are 3005 14,16,18. thanks.

Those huge drums are gonna need some help controlling sound, but not hydraulics. Go with coated 2 ply anything, Remo, Evans, Aquarian (my favs), whichever brand you like the most. The coating should aid in making the sound warmer. Get some moongel for them as well for added dampening. The coated heads plus moongel should give you a huge, controlled and punchy sound without choking the drum. Lets see some pics of those monsters by the way!

Hydaulics will give you the sound of big drums when you have smaller drums....But, when you have the big drums, go with coated heads or 2 ply clears (g2)....I agree with joeywaters....

Also try out remo cs black dots...They are ideal for bigger drums.

My opinion: Hydraulics look good, sound not so fancy.

I use Coated G2's on my kit to get the same sound your describing but to really get a good deep punchy sound, throw on a set of Studio rings and they sound incredible! The rings can give you that nice studio sound.

The rings I took off I got them sounding not to bad,but I'm going to get g2 today.

Coated Emperors are nice. I'm using those now with Clear Studio-X's on bottom. Crazy as it sounds, that is a really great combo. The Studio-Xs as batters are fun, but I think I like them better as resos. You get the nice attack of the Emperor but then the warm sustain of the Studio-X. It's definitely a deep punchy sound that still has great sustain. I'm willing to try different brands with similar heads for these rolls, but I'm really liking this combo. Giving me just the sound I want.

I had the blue Evans oil filled heads years ago, and they are what they are...dead! There is not much adjusting to them, you will never get a lively sound out of them. They are pretty decent for recording but make your drums sound like cardboard boxes in a live situation, unless you use triggers. If you use triggers there are really good because they cut out any overtones which is what you want in that situation. I would go with a 2 ply coated head either Remo Emperors, or Evans G2's. I have been using Emperors for years but the only problem I have with them lately is the coating coming off prematurely. Great sounding heads though whether recording or playing live.

Try the new Evans EC2 as pictured below.
They have a controlled sound, not muffled sound like the Hydraulics do. I will admit I do like the Blue Hydraulics. The EC2 are more lively sounding. Like a G2 with just a small amount of ring under control.

I use the Evans G2 clears at the moment. They are truly great heads! Im waiting for the UPS man for my new G2 Coated heads. I wanted a bit warmer sound. "Rhythm in the hands of few" Sirwill

First of all how are the big toms working? I have a 12 and 14 right now, im looking to get a 16 floor to replace the 14, but do you think i should replace the 12 as well? But as for the question that must really suck to keep buying new heads. But i have some g2 coated and they're fine. For my small drums they get really tough to tune but with the big toms it shouldnt matter.
