New Throne?! =\ Help!

Hey,

I'm looking, for Xmas to get a new drum throne. At the moment i'm only playing with the one that came as standard with my kit. To be quite honest, it's crap =P

I like to play high above my drums, i'm 6ft 3 and gig alot. I guess i'm looking for something tall, comfy yet not too bulky. However am still not too sure what to go for in terms of reliability, practicality etc.

I have been loking at the thrones with backrests, any advantages with them?

ANY help would be much appreciated!

Roc-n-Soc Nitro Throne-Extended Model.

They make these on request. I'm almost 6-4 and originally bought a standard Nitro that was too short. The Extended gives you nearly 6 extra inches to play with.

Perfect for the tall players among us.

Since I am not at all into the inches and feet measuring system I would like some advice for myself and my metric system :-). I am 1.91 meter long and I have bought a normal drumthrone at the music store, but I notice I get pain in my back because I can't sit on it properly; it is not high enough I think. When I put pillows on it I can sit at a comfortable height and suddenly play a lot more natural. What is a good heigt for your throne, are there rules for things like that?
I put a picture with the post so you can see how high it is now, it won't go higher.

Yep, it seems like the Nitro throne is the way to go these days. I am also pretty tall, 6'4" or so, and I bought the regular nitro throne, and am now starting to think it's a bit too short for me. So I will probably have to sell it and buy the higher one. I think maybe a good rule of thumb is if you like to sit pretty high and are over 6' or so, go for the extended model.

Roc n Socs rule all!! I used to have a Big Dog throne n I thought that was ace...Roc n Soc one totally OWNS it!! So comfey and sturdy! Much recomended.

You could always make up some blocks out of wood to give yourself another couple of inches, though I wouldn't go more than 4 or 5. I'm probably going to do this for the back leg of my hi-hat pretty soon.

Check out the pearl roadster thrones. They have one for the timpanist during marching season, and checked it out friday and it had a very wide range of heights.

I don't think blocks are going to be too stable. Your throne gets more movement than you realize. If you wanted to try something like that I'd suggest maybe a mini platform to put your stool on. Maybe 2-2x4's laying flat side down with a piece of 3/4" plywood on top. That will give you about a 2 1/2" lift. If that's too much you could try 1x4's. Also make it larger than the footprint of your stool. Only problem I can see is it possibly interfering with some of your stands. Other than that I don't see and easy fix unless you can order just the base from roc n soc or some other company.

I would think that if your knees is about 90 degees would be a nice hight, but not lower.
I would guess that higher would be good too. Some drummers are really high up,
so i don't know... Try 90 degrees first... I am no expert...
