Dont worry about durability of cymbals. As long as you dont abuse them, and dont constantly use the tip of the stick to hit the cymbal, it should not matter the durabilty. I have not once ever had a problem with cracking or denting my cymbals (except for crappy cb cymbals), and i hit them really hard sometimes.
Go for quality. If you are looking for cheap, but with decent quality, check out wuhan. Literally Dirt cheap with half decent quality, and absolutley amazing chinas.

Wuhans are one way to go, but I must reccomend another. Saludas are definitely pro quality, but are also very cheap compared to the "big three". Also, you can get them customized to however you want them to sound, a feature which none of the other companies offer on a large scale. Check 'em out. You'll be impressed.

anything that's not brass or b8 would be durable.
hey class a, why would hitting with the tip of the stick damage a cymbal?

Well, supposedly alot of people i know that have cracked a cymbal, only crash it with the tip and dont know that using the shaft is probably louder and makes more of a full sound.
Also, it definitley feels better not to hit with the tip if you are using a crash cymbal. I usually get an unpleasent shock in my hand when i hit the cymbal to hard with the tip.
Edit- o yeah, and B8's are definitley durable, they just sound like crap :)

1. that makes sense.. crashes should be hit witht he shoulder of the stick
2. i really think b8's are not durable.. all the cracked cymbals ive seen were sabian b8/b8 pro crashes and hats; zildjian zbt/zxt crashes and hats; paiste pst5 crashes and hats; pearl pro everthing; sabian solar everything; planet z everything; sabian aa metal x crashes and Zildjian Z/Z custom crashes and rides.

Wow. I have had my b8 hats for like 5 years, perfect condition. I had a B8 crash for about 4.5 years before i sold it, great condition also. I gues its because i didnt use it much (considering it sucked) is why it didnt crack.

just dont go for the AA metal X by Sabian. personally i have had some major issues with those. They have cracked faster than the B8s ive owned in the past. the aa metal x seem to be too brittle. they dont absorb the hit very well...but they are VERY loud.

Hard to beat the Paiste PST5's for what you are looking for. They are made from the 2002 alloy but constructed by computerized machines in Germany instead of by hand in Switzerland like the originals which allows them to sell for much cheaper. An amazing value in top-notch cymbals.
