If you're interested in Bosphorus hats then go check out http://www.cymbalsonly.com - I have bought gear from Tony and I can utterly vouch for his ability to help you find what you want. Check out the sound samples to figure out what you like, and then ask Tony as many questions as you need - he's got piles of the things at his end and he's more than happy to compare things to your specs until you find what you want. I'd rather buy from him than anywhere these days - and he's selling Istanbul Agop again, wohoo!

Almost all of my playing is jazz and I have Sabian HH Bright hats and I love them. They provide a great chick and I great opened smash. If you play fusion and funk then these hats will sound great for closed hi hat playing as well.

If you're really not worried about a budget then go on ebay and buy a pair of Old K Zildjian Istanbul hihats. They'll run you about 600-800 bucks for a pair of 14" hats, but you'll never get anything better. Failing that, Roberto Spizzichino in Italy makes the finest modern cymbals in the world, but that'll also cost an arm and a leg.

If you want to nab a new pair of hats and still be able to buy groceries and pay the gas bill, Istanbul Agop out of Turkey are the finest factory cymbals produced and are on par with Zildjian and Sabian's upper lines pricewise (cheaper than alot of modern Z K's actually). Tony at Cymbalsonly.com with help you pick the perfect pair. He also deals with
Bosphorus, which are also nice cymbals.

Another avenue might be to look at a pair of Old A (Avedis) Zildjians. Zildjian started machine-hammering their cymbals in the 50's, but the pieces from the 40's are absolutely amazing, and you can often nab them on ebay or elsewhere for quite cheap. Look for the thin or paper-thin weights. Chances are, on any good old jazz record from the 50's, if the drummer isn't using Old K's, he's using Old A's. Get into it, good luck!

The Bosphorus Tradional Thin Hi-Hats are nice (bossa nova/latin and jazz )..I. But the Paiste NEW Signature 14" Dark Energy Mark I hats sounds better..they are warmer & more pronounce...yet very controllable.

Recently Paiste launch it's new hats - New Signature 14" Light Dark Hats Mark I - I've not heard & play this hi-hats before, but Paiste claim...they are real good.

My favorite Sabian hats -

HHX Manhattan Jazz Hats

HHX Groove Hats

Vault Hats

The manhattan hats are really well designed for jazz, but the groove hats are almost as good and they are more versatile. The Vault hats are in a category of their own - i just think they sound cool.
