Emperor-X = to ???

I have been playing on Remo's Emp-X since the came out, and I love that head for when I am doing heavy rock gigs. But I am just change compleatly over to Aquarian. Now with Aquarian heads, I use the basic texture coeateds on blues, jazz and country gigs. But I need to find something that can take as much of a beating at rock shows as the Emp-X. Any suggestions?

Studio-x are thick and tough...but warmer. They have the new super-2 coming out with dot, which will be a shoe-in to clobber the E-X.

Any Aquarian Heads with powerdots can take any good beating...

My personal choice for your needs is Super-2 or Power thin.

BTW, how do you like texture coated ? They could be good for your rock setup too.

Thanks, I'll try both the High Energy and Super-2's

The Texture Coeateds are just like a coated Amb or Evans G1 coeated. I use them on my lighter gigs because I play a lot of brushes.

My new kit comes with G-1 coated, but if they aren't sufficient, I am going with super-2 myself.

On the remo site they say the emperor-x makes a more dark sound? Is this true because i've heard a lot emperor-x heads sound sharp and bright.

It's in the tuning.

I poped a new Emp-X on my snare yesterday because I broke on during practice, and I cranked it more than normal and it was really bright like you say. Then I went and de-tuned it a little and it gave me a really nice warm sound. That head as more tuning range than anything I have ever played.
