Does anybody here know the exact cymbal setups (series/size etc) for these classic 70's rock drummers? I cant find the setups anywhere on the net.
1. Don Henley (Eagles) not the setup he uses now but the setup he used in the 70s)
2.Sib Hashian (Boston) I know he used Zildjian but what exact cymbal models/sizes,etc?
3.Bruce Gary (The Knack) I know he used Paiste but whats the exact sizes/models?
Those are the main 3 I wanted to know, but Im also curious about
Bev Bevan (ELO) , Stephen Jo Bladd (J. Geils Band) and Charlie Allen Martin (Bob Seger) and Peter Criss (Kiss his 70's set up )
thanks for reading my question. P.S. I would have asked this on the "Cymbalholic Forums" but they are no longer accepting new registered users.
I too wish I could find out many of the 1970s cymbal set-ups and Henley's is one I have been curious about as well. I think I remember seeing somewhere that Henley's main hi hats in the 70s were 14" Paiste 2oo2 Medium hi-hats. I also think that his main cymbals all-around back then were Paiste 2oo2s. But, I've been wrong before ;).

Hi!
Geez - I haven't heard of some of these names in quite some time! How old are you? Just curious because I can recall all of these guys and seeing them when I was thirteen!
Okay, let me give what ifo I have as I have a decent collection of cymbal catalogs!
Sib Hashian -
15" Quick Beat Hi Hats
17" Medium Crash
18" Rock Crash
20" Medium Crash
22" Ping Ride
20" Rock Crash
40" Taiwan Gong
Bev Bevan -
14" Rock Hi Hats
16" Rock Crash
18" Crash/Ride
21" Rock Ride
18" Rock Crash
20" Pang
20" Swish
Peter Criss
15" Quick Beat Hi Hats
8" splash over a 10" Splash over a 12" Splash (Piggybacked)
22" Swish with an 8" Splash on top
16" Medium Crash with a 10" Splash on top
20" Medium Ride Sizzle
21" Rock Ride
18" Thin Crash with a 10" Splash on top
22" Medium Crash with an 8" Splash on top
28" Turkish Gong
This is all according to the Zildjian Cymbal Set-ups of Famous Drummers book, published in 1980.
From a catalog which I am going to assume is from 1979, and I can only find Bev Bevan in it:
Bev Bevan
14" Rock Hi Hats
16" Thin Crash
17" Medium Crash
21" Rock Hi Hats (?!)
18" Thin Crash
20" Swish (Thin)
That is all that I can help you out with. I do remember seeing some sort of Paiste Artisits' set up book when I was in Junior High, but I don't currently have one.

Great job Skitch.
I am pretty sure that back in the seventies and into the eighties, Don Henley used the black label 602's exclusively. If you see an old video of them, look at the hi-hats. They were always a dingy brown color which is typical of the 602's. They are not shiny and bright like the 2002's, and even the black label original series 2002's (I think) were like that as well because of the clear coat they spray on in the final step to "seal in" the desired tone.
In my search for Bruce Gary's setup from the 70's, I soon was saddened to learn that he had passed away last August of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I always thought that Bruce was a great and very underrated drummer, and he did so much cool stuff other than the fluff he had to play with The Knack.
R.I.P. Bruce.

Great Thanks everybody for answering my post! Thanks for the detailed setups. Yes I only listen to 70s stuff mostly. I also thought Don Henley's cymbals looked kinda dull yellow in the videos I have ( I have a couple old bootleg Eagles concert videos from 76 and Don kirshner) But Like Ruok said, I also read on the old "Drumset.com" board in about 2000 where somebody posted Henleys Paiste setup from an old catalog he had and he Definately had Some 2002s in it, I know at least 2 of his crashes were 2002, but cant remember the rest, but he also had a few 602's it was a hybrid setup but the catalog I think was 79 or 80. I wish Don Henley would address this in an interview some time. Of course they have his modern setup on Paiste.com. Wouldnt Paiste have this on file somewhere like in Henleys endorsee contract or something? If he purchased from Paiste they should have records available. Yea Bruce Gary was one of the best! Thanks again.

I also wish Paiste would start making the Formula 602 series again. I know they started making some of the "Giant Beats" again. They dont even have to offer the full line of sizes, just a few of the most popular sizes. I Like the Paiste 2002s best from all the paistes that I've tried, I just wish I had the chance to buy a few 602s before they discontinued them. I wasnt paying attention. Thanks for taking time to post all those setups Skitch, I really appreciate it! I'm saving all the setups and making copies so I never lose them.

I've finally come to the conclusion that it's okay if they refuse to bring the 602s back. The reason is they are still very easily available on ebay and like places. Sometimes they go for a lot less than I thought they would go for. I personally have found some great 602 cymbals for little money in my local want ads and music shops. And I'm willing to bet that many of these old 602 models would still be cheaper $$ than if Paiste brought them back. I think they would charge an outrageously high price if they brought them back.
