Hi, Guys. I'm probably going to exchange my Zidljian ZXT Titanium Rock Ride to a Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride 20". But I was wondering it's probably a great ride but I want to know if anyonw here has tried it? I'm Playing more Metal and Rock so, Would it be good for me?

Edit: Hey, Guys. I didn't swap because I really didn't like the sound from the K Custom... :/ I know it was a great deal and I didn't need to pay anything, but I like my Titanium Rock Ride, Much more :D

Yeah, I have. Great ride - as is almost anything with a K on it anyway...!

It's a great versatile ride cymbal, very clean stick definition, quite washy - but more controlled and and better suited to rock than a lighter cymbal (K custom dark or whatever). Basically, a good rock/funk cymbal, not great for jazz, but versatile for everything else. It's not as crashable as a lighter cymbal, but being a K it is still useable in that way - just a bit loud and heavy compared to the lighter ones.

Hope that helps. Lovely cymbal, I nearly bought one - just not quite as versatile as I need as I play a lot of lighter jazzy stuff as well.

Yeah, it'd be fine for that. The only thing is, unless you have a particular deal on that cymbal, I'd shop around. Aside from anything else, you might find that an A rock ride, or an A ping ride (or my personal favourite - A sweet ride) would be just as/more approriate to you and save you money.

The K is a great cymbal as I said, but if you've not played it yourself or checked out much else then I'd do that - don't rely on other peoples opinions on cymbals, it's too subjective. I love that K, and a lot of others, but you may not and it's an expensive thing to decide you don't like.

I'm not buying one, I'm switching with a dude, I get the K Custom and he get's the ZXT Titanium ;)

Then it's a good deal so go for it. Only thing - why is he switching? he may not like the sound or whatever, but a K custom is worth a hell of a lot more than a ZXT...that's a stupid swap on his part. Unless you're paying cash as well, in which case my above post applies - check out what else you can get for the same cash/trade in.

Go for it. Trading a professional cymbal for an entry level one sounds good to me.

My favourite ride by a long shot is my 20" K Custom Medium Ride. It cost me a painful $585 (Australian) four years ago. I use it for classic rock and blues mostly and it sounds great.

(Of course that was before I discovered the drummer's friend - the international searching capability of Ebay! I am now saving at least 40% .after allowing for the steep cost of international air freight. )

I was looking at doing the same thing, but I replaced my ZXTi rock ride with a 20" Bosphorus heavy Traditional ride. I strongly recomend you check out Bosphorus cymbals, namely the Gold series if you play heavier stuff.

For playing Metal and Rock I think it is the wrong cymbal but it sooo worth the trade value wise.

Sesh said above that it would be fine with that, but after ya'lls answer I'm going for it :D It seems that this dude I'm swapping with doesn't like and he's trying here back in Iceland to sell it but it's not going well for him. So I ask'd him if he would like to switch, and he said sure, and I'm meeting him later and probably going to buy a Zildjian Scimitar for about 45$ USD used, so if anyone has any experience with zildjian Scimitar it would be thank'd if he would tell if their any good ;)

If I get the Ride I'll send some pics :D

Hey drummerworld readers of this thread, i know this is long over due, but I SEARCHED!! But didnt find an answer so i hope that re-introducing my question will be a bit better than starting a new thread and having someone point me here.

My question is the exact same. But it doesnt matter too much now, because i have a long way to to untill i get the money. I was thinking of Getting the regular K ride when someone recommended me the medium. Whats a difference?
Someday ill try them on my own but i would just like some knowledge please.

The regular K ride or K Custom ride? The names are somewaht confusing, becuase there's a K ride, K Custom ride, and K Custom Medium ride.

The K.C. Medium I just played on for an hour or so yesterday and it's quite versatile, although its applications within quiet jazz or loud rock are limited. The bell is surprisingly strong, and the wash is full and good for crashing on while still being very controllable. I think of that cymbal as being perfect for medium soft to medium loud volume music, be it blues, rock, pop or jazz.

the regular K.C. ride is unlathed and comes in brilliant finish only (versus the medium coming in traditional finish only), and this visual difference describes the sonic differences well. This cymbal is much more suited to rock and louder voume music in general. the bell is piercing and the general ride sound is very ping-y. The only jazz it'd be well suited for is big band work.

The regular K series ride I haven't had much of any experience with.

If the attachment manager ever decides to work I'll post a song with me playing the K Custon regular ride so you can hear it in action

I am probably going to be the odd man out on this, but I never really liked this model. If you are going to be playing metal and rock, this probably isn't the cymbal for you. It might have a nice wash to it if you are going to crash it, but this isn't a metal ride. FOr that genre, you may want to go to an A Rock Ride or some in the Z series. The K series rides aren't much on cutting thru high volume music such as metal.

I own the 22" model, and hey...I play a load of funk. Great for certain drum 'n bass work as well. Cool body, hot bell. Great ride.

The 20" K ride has more of a dark definite ping to it; not much give (brighter for a K, heavier, metallic).

The 20" K Custom seems to have a lighter feel with more give. Dryer sound. More musical. Not for a basher I would think.

Have not tried the K Custom.

Yea the regular K, not custom, but that K custom medium sounds like the sound I was looking for. Thanks for the help.

Though it will be quite a while untill a new cymbal comes on the budget I am on.
