Hello drummers,

i've been looking around for a new drumset for 800-1000 euros and i cant really decide. i almost chose a tama superstar custom but i dont really like their finishes, and i dont really want to spent all my money on a drumset of a color i dont really like.

okay, many people here on this forum said that in this price-range one should go for a used pro-level kit (or shells?) but i dont really know whats important to look for and when they're overpriced, i mean pro level kits new are very expensive, dont they have to be very old or broken if they sell them for 1/3 of the new price?

well, basically im looking for a nice snare, bassdrumm one tom and a floortom (like the tama superstar sl42)
i've searched on ebay but, as i said, i dont really know what to look for. and what exactly is the difference between a pro-level drum and a medium-level (like superstar). im not that good but i really wnat to keep my new kit for some time (like 15 years or longer)

okay, i hope you understand me, thanks in advance!

okay check this out, here's a Rogers London V Vintage set for 900 Euros - well i've never heard that brand before, but the set looks like nice quality!

oh yeah, and did the drum manufacturers do alot of improvement of the sound of the drums during the last 20 years?

Your best bet is to leave the snare out of the equation, in terms of buy a 3 piece kit and add the snare of your choice to it. A good used 3 piece kit will be very affordable. Check this out on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/PEARL-Masters-Studio-3-Piece-Drum-Kit-Set-New-Warranty_W0QQitemZ280055773326QQihZ018QQcategoryZ6 4441QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I sold my Yamaha Recording Customs (3 piece) for around $850 US. I also sold my drums as individual pieces, not as a whole kit. Turns out the same cat bought all 3 drums. Lots of people sell kits that way. So if all you want is a kick, 1 rack and 1 floor, think in terms of individual drums also.

go for a used mapex pro m.

They are basically the same thing as the orions, except for the exoctic outer ply, the Bass drum spurs, the finishes, and the mounts on the floor tom.

you can easily pick one up used for about $600-$700 and you can use the rest of that for a new pedal, stands, another set of hats or something completely different

No, I don't wanna get into that again. 14 Mapex Pro M kits on eBay and only 1 has any bids on it.

I have a Pearl rack, Yamaha and Kima stands and the Yamaha Flying Dragon Direct Drive is my pedal of choice. As far as mixing and matching hardware, it's the pipe diameter that's important. So my Yamaha tom arms fit into my Pearl PC-10 rack clamps and my Kima boom arms work everywhere as well. 7/8th inch is the common size I modify everything to. As far as drum shells, you can use RIMS (or any system like) and put quite a variety of tom mounts to the RIMS system. I run Yamaha mounts on my equipment 'cause I really like the Yamaha omni-ball system.
