Hey Guys,
First timer here, be gentle with me. I'm thinking of upgrading from the junk that I have now. I've searched through the forum but haven't heard anyone speak of the MAPEX 2006 QR SERIES . Does anyone have an opinion on these, I know most of you like Mapex but how is the entry level stuff. If you're not happy with the Mapex I would LOVE suggestions
in the $500 range, new or used.
Thanks guys

with mapex, anything lower than the m birch isn't worth spending money on, I suggest going used and getting an intermediate kit.

I have tried the Mapex V and the bass drum sounded awesome, in fact I saw in a thread from another forum that the Mapex V bass drum was used in studio mostly because of it's fat boom sound.

Well, for $500, if you want a new kit I would suggest you look at these:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-Rydeen-5Piece-Drum-Set?sku=444622
or
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ludwig-Accent-5Piece-Power-Shell-Pack-?sku=443135
or if you don't mind smaller sizes (but better quality):
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ludwig-?sku=446443
and if you don't want to think a lot about hardware for the shell pack:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mapex-5-Piece-700-Series-Hardware-Pack?sku=448968
I'm like 99% sure that's the same hardware that comes with the Pro M kits, which seems to be pretty highly regarded.
Of course you can always wait for a great deal on ebay for a higher end used kit.

The PRO M come with double braced stand and double chain pedal...

Hmm...
http://usa.mapexdrums.com/hardware/stands/index.asp
http://usa.mapexdrums.com/hardware/pedals/index.asp
according to that, and
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mapex-Pro-M-4Piece-Drum-Set-with-Free-Bag-Set?sku=449149
it seems to be the same model hardware. So it seems either the hardware in the hardware pack is not what is advertised, they are older models with the same names, or the pictures are wrong. I'm thinkin' the pictures are probably wrong, or the 'A' after everything else denotes a revision. It's probably the latter. Good eye. Hmm...maybe someone should contact Mapex? I can't find anything on their site about 700 or 500 series hardware without the A after the names, so I'm thinkin' they either took it down when they made the A revisions or the pictures and the description (in the sense that the A's are missing) on the musiciansfriend page are wrong. Plus, I think the list price is kinda low for single braced hardware (unless it's really good single braced hardware).

I resonate the claimes about anything under a Mapex M being pretty much inferior in quality and sound. The hardware is flimsy garbage, i sue one of these for my practice kit. I think some of the cheap no name brand make better value kits for the money, with anew set of heads on any other kit, youll be getting better quality hardware and a better sounding kit.
Also, ahve you considered going second hand?
