View Full Version : Womble's Band's Second EP

We spent the whole weekend in the studio (same one as last time) and got four new tracks done, whereas previously we'd done three in one day. The extra time gave the producer far more scope for mixing and mastering, and the drums were all properly, individually mic'd, so as well as just souding a whole lot better, you can actually hear the toms!! I'm really happy with these recordings: everything's a lot tighter than last time, and I think I played much better. Now let's see what you think...
p.s. for those of you who wanted to know what my K Custom Special Dry Ride sounds like - I used it on all four songs.
EDIT: the songs are also now on our myspace, http://www.myspace.com/therequiems
wow thats great. i really like all the stuff you guys have done. You have one hell of a good singer. 2marrow night is my favorite. you playing is great on it. I really like the warm open sound your toms have. 5stars haha

Thank you kindly, Dom. I shall pass on your compliment to our singer. In fact, I'll send him the link right now! Yeah I was much happier with the drum sound than last time, the high tom in particular sounds sweet, just what I wanted. Kudos to our producer.
For info, the cymbals and snare are mine, but the drums were a pretty basic looking Sonor Force.

Hey, that's actually decent stuff. I never expect to hear anything good in user-posted MP3s. Good show!
What's the name of the band? Womble and the Wombletones?

I never expect to hear anything good in user-posted MP3s, and these songs did nothing to raise my expectations. You and your band suck. Please don't bother posting any more of your work.
I'm sorry, and you're right. I hate myself and I want to die.
What's the name of the band? Womble and the Wombletones?
We're called Everybody Hates Womble. Actually that's a lie, we're called The Requiems, but I think the former is superior.

Someone is posting for me. I would have never said "You and your band suck." That's not something I would have typed.
Your band sucks. That's how I would have said it. However, I think your playing could probably be a little more Buddy Rich in places. More skillful, you know?
I like the new old name. I agree, far superior.

Is that your singer whistling in that last tune?
(I can't believe I'm listening to all of these tunes.)

Is that your singer whistling in that last tune?
It is indeed. Goodness knows what that tune is meant to be, it currently sounds a like a Pharrell-produced Timberlake track with rap-metal sensibilities, but sung in a cockney accent. The band concensus is it needs to be made more indie and less hip-hop, but I like my hip-hop flavaz coz I'm so street. Those vanilla faces just don't get it.
As you can hear, we still don't really know what we're meant to sound like. It's a lot of fun being unconstrained in that regard though.

Damn it man - that is friggin great. I am still addicted to the very first song you've posted (straight to my city) and now this.... great. Just great.
Good to see, that the two LAMA guys that I know here both play in great bands and both know how to play for the song. I really hope that you guys will make it BIG - you've defintely got the material that might be a hit and it is well produced also.
Maybe we can arrange a Gig in the future for both bands. That would be a great night.
All the best, Lutz.
BTW - I'll be in London for a week in February. Meet??

Sound great. You and your mates have made it into my iTunes chill music play list.
Your singer is awesome and your playing is great. I can differently see you on mtv receiving a best new group award giving a shoutout to drummerworld GO GET SIGNED!

Lutz,
Thank you, and so glad you like them. It was particularly easy 'playing for the song' in Second Guessing, I just switched into Jeff Porcaro mode. In fact I don't think I play anything on that song that I didn't steal from Jeff!
Who's the other LAMA guy here? I must have missed him.
It'd be great to meet you at last, I'm definitely here in February. Perhaps we could work on some multi-pedal orchestrations together and get our singles up to WFD levels...

Now THAT'S a compliment, being on someone's playlist. Thank you so much. If we ever make it, I'm going to give a huge shoutout to Class A Drummer, just to piss off MFB.

I am the second LAMA guy of course. :)
Dude, my singles are already beyond WFD level and for my current Band I use 17 Pedals on each foot. So we'd have to find something else to do. How about drinking???
Womble

Great, so you play 17 pedals with each foot. Why not push yourself further and go for 18? The kids on youtube will love you even more. Actually sod it, drinking sounds fun ;)
Finn, MFB...any comments on the recordings?

I found this in another thread...
Did you hear Womble's new MP3s? Both Womble and his band suck.

As if I need to worry about such a mediocre drummer's opinion.

Kay, there's some sort of strange inside thing going on here in this thread, but I'll ignore that and just say this....you guys have made some great music here. I can definitely see you guys making it bigger, cause this is great accessible stuff without being musically stupid. Your vocalist has a great voice, for sure, although is falsetto is a little too noticable. You play very tastefully and well. Like how your drums sound. Well done!

This is a local thread for local people. We don't like outsiders coming to these parts.
Jus' kidding. Thank you for your kind comments, jmontroy. Our singer has actually toned down his falsetto since the last EP. Because I'm used to him using it a lot, it doesn't stand out to me so much on these tracks, in fact I think he uses it quite effectively. But I can imagine, for anyone coming to it for the first time, that it would be quite 'in your face'! Who knows, maybe there'll be no falsetto at all on the next recordings....

Great job Womble! I have been meaning to listen to these. About 90% of my Drummer World time is spent at work and unfortunately the computer has no sound. I'm sure there is an ethical flaw there somewhere, but I try not to think about it too much..:-) I'm glad I finally checked them out. You have a very solid playing style and compliment your band very well. You guys have the kind of sound that is sure to be successful. I'll be sure to catch you play on your first North American tour. Great job.

Cheers, Guinness (there's a joke in there somewhere). Not being able to hear Womble drum while at work clearly contravenes Section 4, Article 3, Paragraph 6.ii of the Employee's Bill of Rights. Sue their ass.

I've booked you two a room for the weekend at the Biltmore Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island. Should be about equidistant. No need to thank me - just have a great time.

Don't like the drum mix much at all but the playing is really good. Solid songwriting too.
Good work boyo!

Is it as nice as the Mandarin Oriental in Miami? I only stay in the best hotels, I'll have you know.

Yay, some actual criticism at last! Please elaborate on the mix, I'd be interested.

As I've never been to the Mandarin Oriental in Miami, I can't say for sure. So, the Biltmore is out for you. Let me see what I can do.

You've got a great band there ,Womble! You really should try to get signed if you haven't already. Heck, I'd buy a CD the minute it came out!

Thanks Kristen and 'Hello'! I'm really looking forward to playing the Islington Academy - 18th Jan for any of you Londoners. We're supporting the bass player from the Jam's new band; I'm not sure I've ever met anyone so famous. Oh hang on a minute, yes I have. Oh well.
We've also been invited to be the subject matter at a music video directors' training school in early February: 5 different directors, 5 different videos all of us! Naturally I'll upload them as soon as they're done.
