Fiberskyn FA

Just wondering.
There seems to be so many posts about trying to obtain that deep, round sound from a head, therefore having to resort to dampening and muffling etc.
I just saw in Modern Drummer from a couple of months ago, that Danny Seraphine (ex of Chicago) swears that the Fiberskin Fa from Remo gives him that "calf like" sound from the old rock days.
How come more people don't try these heads?
Anyone got any experience with them?

I use them for jazz and tune them up high and that makes a great, warm sound...I recommend them....Also, they are very durable.

Would these heads sound good on roto-toms?

you must beware of buying old fiberskyns,,,ones that have been around the store for a while,,,,they used to make them a tad undersized,,and would be hard to tune up/seat,,that was my experience anyway,,,but the new ones, are warm,,,i lika!!

I have been using Fiberskyns for about 13 years and I love them for bass drums and toms. I use Powerstrokes for the snare to control ring and coated Ambassadors for all resonants.

Fiberskyns do effectively control overtones without sacrificing punch and richness of sound. It's strange how drummers mount the most ringy heads, then stuff pillows, blankets and mattresses into their drums to "control ring." People have been playing unmuffled drums for thousands of years, using head properties to control ring. That's exactly what Fiberskyns do.

Agreed 100%. I just dropped all my remo ebony heads in favour of the fiberskyns and I do believe I found my drumhead for life. I use absolutly no muffling devices anymore, anyone want a pile of free moongels?! HA!

Do any heads sound good on Roto-toms?

At one time, therse were optional on the Roto-toms from the factory, and Louie Bellson used them on his roto-toms.
