I'm surprised I didn't find this in the search, so my apologies if I missed it. What is everyone's favourite finishes? If you have pics, all the better. I think that I the cherry to black fade by drum workshop is great, also a nice deep red laquer under gold hardware. Also a black w/ green center fade with a satin chrome.

Ludwig Mod Orange...the original stuff, not the reissue crappage.
Natural maple satin.
Red glass.
black stain, matt lacquered or oil rubbed....beautiful. With satin hardware ideally, but that's mainly about keeping the fingerprints off for me!

This is one of those perfectly unanswerable questions for me. The reason is...
People post thier kits in the gallery. I will say" Wow, that color looks amazing" and look at another kit "Wow, that looks amazing too!"
I can't pick a favorite. Because Burl Wandoo has a totally different appeal for me than black charry sparkle, or maybe purple to white fade, and the list never ends.

Mapex:

Definitely not a fan of fades for whatever reason. I do really like that C&C Mother of Pearl finish. Too bad they don't have better customer service. I emailed them three times and they never responded-10 other drum companies did, but not them.
Mapex makes a blue sparkle lacquer that is really cool looking as well.

Hey Fat Elvis,
That's the most beautiful set of drums I think I've ever seen. I'm a little older than you, but I believe either Slingerland or Ludwig made that finish in the 60's.

thank you both very much. I saw this kit on craigslist and fell in love immediately. I bought it the same day -- the 16 and 10 toms were added on later -- ordered from DW. DW does not make the champagne sparkle anymore (why i have NO idea) and instead now make the champagne glass -- which is also nice, but i prefer the sparkle.
i love this finish so much that I am considering it for my starclassic as well (right now is a dark cherry fade (see pic)), but i dont like fades, so I have decided that i want to wrap it. I was thinking of a gold sparkle, but i love my champagne sparkle so much that i may choose that instead.
i will tell you that it looks INCREDIBLE on stage. The lights really do make that kit even more special.
Oh, and I think Ludwig still makes the champagne sparkle on their high end kit. I saw one in guitar center here in vegas. And yes, i want it :)

I admire a nice "burst" or "fade" style finish on drums, but in the end, I settled on a much more subdued matte black oak finish (Yamaha SC Nouveaus)...It's a very subtle finish, easy to maintain (Pledge and black laundry markers for the odd scuff mark), and it reflects stage lighting in a toned down sort of way...I like it a lot!!!

I am going to see what wraps he has on hand -- he had told me a bunch that he had in stock, including champagne sparkle. I am leaning towards this as i just love it. But it could be a gold sparkle as well. Most likely it will be either one of those.

The new tour custom colour is a little bit different, a different kind of fading. I think I was really lucky when I found and bought this kit (I have 12x8 and 15x11 toms too), because the only RC that I could find (except mine) were red or black. I'm still looking for a bass drum 22x16 or 22x18 (the same colour), but I think is very difficult.
