Hello,
I'm looking for a new main ride cymbal. Since i don't only play one style (rock, latin, swing funk etc...) I'm not sure what to get!
Well, i kind of like the Zildjian cymbals and there is a (cheap?) used one at ebay, a ZILDJIAN Avedis Ping Ride 20". It's 160€ (201$) and I'm not sure if I should buy it. What do you think?
Bye and thanks in advance!

mhhh...there are many many good and versatile ride cymbals.
I`ve got a Zildjian K Custom Dry light Ride, it`s very very dry but also versatile. Many people say that it is one of the jazziest Ride - and this might be true - but I also played some Latin, Funk, Rock on it...this would be one I can recommend.
Another one I really like because of its versatility would be the K Custom Ride...this thing is cool, not my choice in sound character but maybe your choice? Check it out, exclusive sound!

You Can go with 20" Avedis medium ride or A Sweet Ride line ...
Very versatile and good sounding ride.

Yeah, I think one of the most versatile Zildjian rides tends to be the Sweet Ride.
But, after searching and searching, and trying out different rides over the last few months, I finally found the ride I was looking for.
It's a 20" K Custom Dark Ride....absolutely the sweetest ride I've ever played.
Just a great blend of "ping" and "click", with a great bell also.
And, suprisingly for a "K", not a lot of annoying "Overtones". Great for crashing on too.

Okay, if you look around you can see that ebay offers also great opportunities to get nice cymbals for a good price:

just made a search for a K Custom Ride cymbal...oh, and I have another question: Do you like rather a dark sounding cymbal, traditional sounding or rather bright and modern??

The ping ride sounds good on the zildjianb configurator, I would go for it. Nice price too. (only I had to convert it to £s first lol).

That Ping might work, but I wouln't recommend buying a cymbal without hearing and playing it first. If you're able to return the ping if you don't like it, I would go for it.
I agree with Karl about K Customs. I've always thought the K Custom line is very versatile and high-quality.
Of course, I can't reply to this without plugging Bosphorus. The Bosphorus Turk Ride might be good for you--dark and washy enough for jazz, yet articulate and heavy enough for funk or rock.

SABIAN HH Classic Ride, HH Vintage Ride, HHX Manhattan (more of a vintage sound here though), HHX Groove, HHX Stage, HH Raw Bell Dry Ride, AA Raw bell dry ride
Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride (I can say from experience the 20" medium ride is versatile although it can get boring sounding because of it's simplicity) I can't recommend the Avedis Medium Rides or Ping Rides anymore...older ones yes, but the new ones no. I own a new medium ride 20" thinking it would be like the old ones, well it's not. I think it just rings too much for its design. The ping ride I saw seemed the exact same thing as my medium ride.
The best option is a sort of medium to thin ride with a medium sized bell. Then you can use different types of sticks to change the sound.
I hear lots of good reviews on HHX Evolutions too, but they are a bit splashy, good for the fusion, latin, smooth jazz stuff. I'm probably going to trade my Avedis Zildjians for SABIAN Manhattan Jazz cymbals. They seem to resemble the old Zildjians of the old days. That's universal enough for me.

Time to weigh in with Paiste. First off, there are a lot of great Paiste Rides. The signature seires has many flavors to choose from if you are willing to pay. While I don't use any of the signature rides, I use 2 Paiste ride cymbals in my set up.
I use a Paiste RUDE Power Ride 20" and a Paiste 2002 24" Ride. The RUDE Power Ride has a total Love - Hate following. I use the RUDE selectivly, when I want a loud pinging ride sound nothing beats it. It can cut through Marshall stacks like a diamond drill.
But for the more cool all around full solid ride sound, the 24" is just too awsome. I highly recomend it! It was Bonzo's ride of choice and I can see why. It is so deep and yet so bright. I believe it is one of the best rides ever (my humble opinion), and I would not leave home without it. For a slightly softer sound, it's cousin the Paiste Giant Beat 24" Ride has a lot of the same charateristics but a little less umph. Either way, neither are cheap cymbals. On ebay you can probably land one anywhere from $200 - $400. The cheapest place I have seen it on-line is massmusic.net, I think it was around $287, but you have to request the price, as they don't publish them.

My drum teacher has an A Ping ride and I find it to be a clangy piece of metal. I think the A CUSTOM Ping ismuch more musical.
