I just ordered 2 more toms from DW for my Champagne Sparkle Collectors... Im so excited!!!! Still waiting to hear when they will come in, but I am getting a pretty darn good deal (thankfully i know someone endorsed who is getting me a good deal).
Right now I have:
12, 14 (floor) and a 20 kick
Soon i will have:
10, 12, 14 (floor), 16 (floor), 20 kick
I had called Sam Ash originally for a quote just for the 16" floor tom -- $700! OUCH! I am getting both my toms for $700.... which is still not THAT great considering you can buy pretty descent intermediate kits for $700, but still.... better than paying retail. And it should up the value of my DW considerable should i ever sell it (which i cant see happening).
Of course i will have pics when they arrive. :D
Maybe i will buy a Supraphonic with the savings ;)

That is a pretty good price!
Now you'll have a Steve-Smith like setup. Did they estimate how long for the drums to be completed?
I am right there with ya...I have been waiting for 8 weeks now for my new kit.

I have not heard how long yet -- i put the order in through my friend Lez Warner (former drummer with The Cult). He should tell me when that should come in.
Yeah I am pretty excited about the set-up -- I am going to be splitting the toms -- with both high toms placed on the left side, so the ride will still be able to be placed just like it is on my current set-up.

like i said, i know someone who is endosed with DW -- they owed me a favor, so they called DW on my behalf and scored me a deal based on their relationship with them.

Well, crap. Tempus has to get some hardware...so I am at least 2-3 more weeks (Nov) before my kit shows up.

You amaze me!
Are you a purchasing agent for a living? Or, do you just know how to get great deals!!!!
Congrats on the new toms. I added 3 new toms to my 3003 sonor (but 3005s) and I couldn't wait for them! Makes the kit so much more fun!
I tried changing the kit placement due to the new toms and it was a pain. I finally set up the kit the way I had it as a 5 piece, and mounted the to high toms above the high hat, with the hi hat in the normal position (I got a remote hi hat stand to move the hi hat closer while keeping my double pedal) and what a difference!
Have fun!

Thanks -- i guess how vegas works, its all "who you know". I have been blessed with great deals (got another one today that i will post about because i have become friends with a drum guy at guitar center).
cant wait for the toms, but i know it will be a long wait. :(

so i was told yesterday that DW had received my order and are making my toms from scratch, which is pretty cool. I should receive them in 4-6 weeks. They did say that had some of the old Champagne Sparkle wrap left which they were planning on using -- which begs the question:
when did DW move from the sparkles to the glass they are using? My kit is the black badge kit and it was made sometime in the 1990's (i cant really tell because one of the lugs is cutting off the date stamp, but it looks like it is 1998 or 1999.
can anyone tell me if i should have them use champagne sparkle or champagne glass? i want it all to match :)
any help is appreciated.

I also just put an order in for a new kit.
14" and 16" toms and a 26" bass drum!

Did you go with the sparkle or glass?
Fat Elvis
11-29-2006, 09:12 AM
went with the sparkle. I sent the pictures in of my kit to DW and they immediately confirmed that it was a sparkle. After finding out that my kit was in fact made in 1995, it put the sparkle/glass question to rest for me as well :)

well, they finally came in! Here they are. They are not set up yet because i need to buy a double tom mount stand at GC tomorrow. Note the slight shift in color on the champagne wrap. I guess you can chalk this one up to the wrap i have being 12 years old compared to brand new. In a natural light, however (not under the camera flash) its a bit harder to detect.
I will put up pics when they are all set up.

Very nice indeed, can't wait to see the pics of the setup! You going to float the 10 and 12 directly over the BD or off center to the left of the BD? Another trip to GC huh, I tell ya, we gotta buy stock in that darn company seeing how we go there so often. I just bought some new cymbals from them, I could have gotten them cheaper online, but cymbals are way too personal and inconsistent sounding from one to the next, even though they are the same series. Zildjian A's a week ago, 14 fast crash, 15 thin crash, 17 thin crash, 22 Sweet ride to compliment my other cymbals and also to have two sets for both the kits so I don't have to swap from one kit to the other
Fat Elvis
12-06-2006, 03:46 AM
i think i am gonna go with the offset to the left so i can still tuck my ride in where i like it. :)
nice cymbal set up. i want to get there eventually with not having to borrow from one kit to the other. Have my gigging set up ready to go.

I am still awaiting my kit...I ordered it mid august. Thanks to the highly increased demand for tempus this year, and the special hardware I had to have, it's well outside it's 4-6 week envelope (4 weeks in 2005!). No word from Tempus since the 7th of November regarding the kit. Still...it should have been done before yours.
Off my rant...
That's very nice! Cool that you got it so quick as well!

Thanks Ozzy. I am very happy with it as well. Pretty much perfect, however i HATE HATE HATE the powerstroke 3 kick drum head i have on there. Although it is brand new, I am replacing it with a superkick I tomorrow. I cant even stand how dead it sounds.

Once again...beautiful kit, Elvis. I frequently entertain the thought of building my own proffessional quality kit instead of buying custom, but everytime I see this kit (especially this kit) and others of it's quality I am forced to except the fact that there is no way I can build something that pretty. You definitely have a keeper.

Very cool! It reminds of when I got my WMP kit and went to the store and checked them out and all. It was like I was thirteen again! By the way (and i am sorry I didn't see this thread earlier), but the glass finishes are fairly new (within a year or a year and a half).

Are you going to put coated Ambassadors on the newbies as well?
And for all the guff we DW owners take, you are proof positve that one doesn't have to blow the family farm on a set. You just have to be able to compromise and be creative. I picked mine up used for about what you paid.

yeah im trying to decide. I dont like that they dont match, but i am going to be using these babies in the studio only for now and gigging my starclassic. All the heads are brand new, so i guess i will wait a while and decide whether i will go with the coated ambs (which i really like on my kit) or go with clears. Unsure.... i guess i have some time to think and wait. I play pins on my starclassic and they sound great on there, but i dont know if i want to go that route on my dubs. any suggestions? right now, coated ambs are leading the charge for me.

mic is an audix D6 kick mic. Going into a Xenyx board (small), a QSC power amp and in through JBL speakers and Yamaha Floor Monitors. No sub right now, which I do want to get. I play all audix mics and they sound amazing.... highly recommend them.
