If? i know it will never happen..... but if you had to choose one model of cymbal from one company which would it be and why?
Mine would be HHX...
Large range..Legacy,evolution, stage,studio,explosion,power....
it has everything for soft jazz upto rock and the hhxpower series really is loud enough for metal, trust me..... your thoughts???????

The tried and true A Zildjian series...
A Custom. Relitively Large Range Also:
Normal

Medium
....................
Maybe not so many as other ranges but theres certainly alot to work with.
HHX is cool tho

i'ts a toss up between sabian AAX or HH lines
I love the sheer cutting power of the AAX range
But I also love the more complex slightly darker tones of the HH
Can I have both please :-)

Ah, but they make heavier pies in that model. The trads have got to be the most versitile cymbal I've ever played/heard. I use them for blues and classic rock.
Mediocrefunkybeat
09-21-2006, 01:19 AM
Yeah but the fundamental manufacturing processes would suggest that it's going to be a little lower in pitch than those needed for metal. I've used my jazz ride in a rock context quite happily though.

Actually I like the looks of these cymbals alot.... I dunno I guess I like the dirty unlathed look, gives 'em character. I play Jazz mostly so I need a dark, dry cymbal that doesn't get too washy if I'm playing really up tempo.

sabian HHX just because they all have great tonal qualities and also sabian can customize if you get a natural finish or brilliant and the HHX sound good with both.

I might have to agree with the Cons, sinse I recently got a 22" medium. It really sounds amazing compared to regular K stuff. I now know they are worth the money to me, but I'm worried about the ride cutting in lighter to medium rock. What do you think Garvin and everybody?

Definitely NOT ZXT Titaniums.
I think either HHX or Bosphorus.
I've some cash put aside that I'm slowly adding too for some new cymbals, and I think that I'll get hats, ride, and crash or crash/ride from one of those lines. I'm thinking maybe HHX groove ride and hats and a HHXtreme crash from sabian, or something similar from Bosphorus. I don't know. Any thoughts someone wants to share on this?

nice jazzy cymbals. theyve got a light ping and a good wash, pretty much very versatile. not too bright as Avedises but not too dark that it cant be used for rock.

Damn you for asking such a question.! I can't decide, I have a 22" Zildjian K ride that is god's breath to me, but (nearly) all my other cymbals are Sabian: 14" AA Sizzle hats, 14" HH Sound control crash, 16" Saturation crash, 10" XS20 china splash, 8" HH splash, 7" Ice Bell, and a 16" Wuhan Lion china...(.Just can't do without my Wu..;)

I guess if i had to choose one series to use forever it'd be a close call between Old K Zildjian Istanbuls and turkish alloy Spizzichinos. However, staying realistic to my financial situation, i'll go with Agop traditionals (probably the most "old K" like cymbals next to the Spizz) or Agop Signatures.

things are great -- work is crazy and being in 2 bands is taking it out of me. But better than being bored. I miss this place -- i had better get to some posting. Buy any kits lately?
i am hoping to add to my K collection this week -- maybe next. I need an 18" crash like its my job. The Avedis is just too hard to control volume with and still get a great tone.

HHX Groove Hats are smokin! I've had mine (14") for about 4 months and they are so freaking shweet. Great wash and definition open, killer chick sound closed.
I would recommend these hats to anybody. Next time I'm set up, I'll try to get some sound on 'em. Also, Matt Abts from Gov't Mule uses these hats so there's a high-quality recorded reference you can check out.

My fave pie to date: 22" K Custom Dark Ride
Even tho it's 22" ...it's easy to crash and gets a nice classic crash sound with maybe a bit more decay time than you want in some cases but... You said ONE cymbal.
It also rides very sweetly and is easy to control without excessive buildup or any trace of gongyness... stick definition may be a little weak in some instances with some sticks but again you said... ONE cymbal
So that's it.... the one i can't live without.. 22" K Custom Dark Ride

If there could be only one kind of drink, it should be water...
Now, fruit juice is great... beer... but if it had to be one it would have to be the most basic, versatile one.
Following that example, I'd have to add myself to the votes of good ol' standard AVEDIS line... the only line played and recorded on EVERY conceivable style of music for the most time... and the basic sound reference to compare all cymbals to.
Even If I don't use any, I'd have to say that.
