hey, i just started this thread out of interest, wondering who is the most favourite or respected forum member. personally, i think MFB is my favourite, always good advice and a balanced view on threads, also a very nice person. what are your thoughts? and by the way, please dont turn this into a most hated forum member thread, that would ruin it.

Well I don't honestly know what to say. Thanks Gusty. I'm humbled for sure, and I'm capable of being a total git when the time comes. Have a very nasty feeling this thread is going to get very deleted very soon though.

OOhh this should be fun haha

I Haven't really got any favourite chums on here, if I did they would know who they are.

There are a lot of knowledgable and fair people in here who's opinions I respect as much as the next

That is a tough one. I have to agree though, I have always had good interaction with MFB as well, and I respect him. Nutha Jason has always been helpful, as well as Dogbreath (Gotta kiss up ya know)..;) Wegadrummer, so many people. The one I have had the most interaction with I believe though is "Jason Dorn".

I remember first joing up with all these guys on drummerworld eons ago before I went offline for a year. I respect most everyone here on this site, But these are the ones I have interacted with the most and know.

I'd have to agree on liking quite a few, there's enough of them that I wouldn't want to list in fear of forgetting someone. MFB, Stu (who still posts here and there I see), the admins, Bernhard are all good examples though. Womble, Gruntersdad, Finhiggins (especially when he and Stu argue)...etc. just too many.

What is this, high school again?

Anyway, I like lowtech. He's cantankerous, but fair and informative and fun to read. I like brokenhalo because he's an all-around nice person but he doesn't post here as much. Fourstringdrums also seems nice. Nutha does a good job of fairly and diplomatically administering this place and I respect that ability.

Does the winner get a pretty diamond tiara to wear with "most popular DW member" engraved on it?

We should have a DW member contest - categories like Most Helpful Member, Hottest Male Member (err, wait...like, as in a member who is male), Hottest Female Member, Most Improved Noob etc. Could be fun. People could nominate for each category and then the top 5 nominated would be the people we have to vote on.

Back on topic - It would be hard to pick a favourite. I'd have to say MFB, coz after an incident with a poster on here when I was fairly new, MFB told me he respected me (but, will he respect me in the morning? lol), and I'd also have to say Glynes, because she's such an inspiration to me.

I like very much jazzgregg, his knowledge in jazz is absolutely astonishing, every discussion I had with him, I fell like I was someone because he has very good respect in people and I feel everytime that I have learned something.

Then I always like seeing "our" Stu post, he has always something devilish to say and make you want to reply back...

Finally, I like radiofriendlyunitshifter because he's my Aquarian preacher backup ah ! ah ! ah !

Of course, theres MFB, Finns, and Mattsmith. Oh, and I almost forgot FourstringDrums. Theyre all pretty cool guys. I wouldnt mind meeting up with some of them...

but i kid. favouritism is bad here. i like anyone until they let us down and even then they get a few chances. sometimes its also from whence it comes. i got to say that i have lots of respect for the guys who stick around and post regularly for long periods of time while not getting caught up in negative emmotion...folks like wega, aahz rendez, cdawg, franklin and the duke too mention a very short list.

and i got to put a word in for my collegues. as MFB once said... i'll kill them last. jokes. huge respect for DB and Bernhard.

sorry nutha, i dont want this to be a 'favourite' thing. thats like being picked for footy teams at lunch, great being the first few but totally sucks being the last ones. i want this to be a more 'respected' thread.

also id like to add karl, hes an awsome drummer and forum contributer; nutha, DB, and ofcource Bernard for putting this forum up and keeping it together, without u guys we wouldnt have anywhere to discuss our passion(or i wouldnt); finnhiggens, i think your a great advicor, and always willing to post; anyone else who i forgot, mostly those good contributors. also stu, who i think has a 'tough but fair' kinda addittude. which is not a bad thing.

Well, we all know who is going to win the "Youngest looking female for her age-member"!!! Can you be voted "Hottest male member" without having a picture uploaded? You know it's the inside that counts, and i'm very hot on the inside!! i guess i had to much chili (okay these jokes are getting stupid so i'll stop now)

Back on track - i'm only going to vote once, so there's no leaving someone out... And it has to be Derrick.

I think I have to add in Tim Waterson. I'm surprised at how few people have mentioned him. He's one of the few pro drummers that come on here, and he comes on here fairly consistently to give tips on drumming and to compliment others, and I havent seen a harsh word come out of him.

There are others I would like to add to my list, such as Drummer Karl and Aahz, but most people have the guys that I forgot to list (sorry) covered. Just thought that Tim Waterson needed a few more props.

I'm rather new here, but I my short time I have found that there are several members who consistently give good-well though out advice, positive reinforcement, support, and who are able to do it without any attitude.

Advice is useless if it comes off as arrogant of if the person asking the question is made to feel as if its a "newbie," or silly question, and some folks here are really good at avoiding that, even when the questions are very basic, or from drummers who may have just gotten their first kit that very day.

The best posters are the ones who have the ability to make everyone here feel welcome and comfortable enough to ask any question. I think everyone here pretty much knows who those guys and girls are, so I don't think I need to name names, but I do really appreciate the positive influences around here.

If Im not mistaken that show was the masters thesis of a female teacher from Hood College in Baltimore, where the original lady was MIss Nancy. Her thesis was liked so much by the local TV folks that they turned it into a show. Same with Bill Cosbys, Cosbys kids which I think was his Doctoral presentation for his PHd in education.

Yeah thats pretty much what made me post in the first place. I have been playing for a good few years and browsed the site and forums for 6 months before joining in on the forum. And I knew that I could ask any question and not feel like an idiot!

I dont really post much in the way of helping people although if a topic comes up and I feel I can add to it I do. I am still soaking up info that I should have been learning from the start of my drumming days!

Okay, staying slightly off-topic - Did the US version of Romper Room have Mr Dooby, the bee? They used to play a game with balloons that went "Mr Dooby, how do you do, we're going to play a game with you,we'll let you buzz, we'll let you fly...*something something* sailing by"? and they'd let the balloons go (untied) and they'd go flying around the room.

This thread is somewhat interesting, in terms of something i yet have to figure out.

I'm urged to say that this thread somewhat isn't a good thing for this forum but as i read all the reply's, it's really helping to build the atmosphere. I yet noticed that someone wasn't mentionned up till now who was the first one that came into my mind when i read the thread title. And that person is Raymond_Bloom. For some reason i really like seeing posts of him in a forum. As for other people, i think everyone that doesn't makes a mess of this forum is 'my favourite member' (i know i'm guilty myself of posting pointless stuff -> There for i decided to just read most of the time rather than interact for now on) And for other respected members in my opinion goes: The more time you spend in technique section, the more i appreciate you =)

I don't have a favourite, but Jeff Almeyda and Finn have helped me a lot. Very helpful. Fooleeze, Karl, MFB, britt, Bermuda, Bernhard, StickTrick & jazzgregg are also really great contributors, and very helpful. This is just a short list, though.

Hi!

If you don't mind a new guy participating here, I'd just say that in my book greats are any person who contributes to making this place what it is whether he's a newbie or an experienced member. I haven't been here long, but I'm happy to be aournd here and to learn and share.

Keep it up guys, this is a great place.

Back to topic... There are so many people that I don't know who are for sure amazing drummers and posters! And sometimes it's just the opposite :( . So let's not mix frequent-poster and good-advisor.
I had the most interesting feedbacks with finn, stu, nutha and... of course... duke86.

And to think I actually used to be known for my helpful posts, back before I started a business that keeps me busy 24/7. Now I only have time to Moderate, and not enough time to engage in long conversations or do research to give a meaningful answer to someone's question. Oh well. When I do my next report from NAMM hopefully I'll redeem myself for a week or two.

I dont have any favourite on this forum, but there are people i KNOW are good and skilled and they are helping me (and other drummers) to develop both as musicians and drummers, tech and groove and so on. They are like the foundation for our "drumming house" and i have much respect for them...
To name a few there is off course Bernard, Doggy, Nutha and Stu.. And people like Fin, MedioFB, Rudimental Drummer, Aahzwhaterhesnameis, Britt, Topcat, Drummer Karl off course, T.Underhill, Stormi, Glynes, Titansound, drum progressive and fourstringsdrums.. Cant remember more names now..

First is Bernhard cause its his site and he opened my eyes to some drummers I had never heard of before with those cool clips....

Second would be Stu cause he made me feel welcome to the site by answering my ??s and PMs by givin me some real good advice....

Third are the players that I like cause they've humbled me and made me realize that I still have alot of work to do....guys that I've heard play that I like are Britt, Jazzsnob, Duke and Yamaha drummer....

There some others that I like too just can't name them all....

Okay, based on actual personal experience, I'd have to say Titansound, met him on sunday and he's a great guy (plays pearl aswell, top bloke for that)

everybody else has named names so now I feel a little left out haha

others would include

Bernhard
Nutha & Barry (and not just because they both have a BLX)
Stu
MFB
Jollymosherdude (rad hair dude)
Karl
Stormi
Neurotica (puuurrrr)
finnhiggins

there's lots of people here who's posts I enjoy reading and have gained a lot of knowledge from, those are just off the top of my head and in no particular order (get out clause)

Even classA, I have gained a lot from some of his threads, not necessarily his posts, but he seems to get the best advice going which is always a great read

massonni is pretty awesome, he's a full on working pro and answers some dumb questions in a smart way.

Karl makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside and reminds me of my younger years(I'm an ancient 18 years old).

Jeff Almeyda is serious as hell and I always appreciate Joe Morello stories (not too mention 2nd generation technique concepts)

I have to say:
Drummer Karl for his ambassadorship. His posts are positive and encouraging and always supportive.
He can never hide his love of drums. If groove is the ultimate feel good of drumming then Karl is 'the groove'.
Next would be Finn, Jazzgregg and Stu for their (sometimes brutal) honesty and overall command of the intellect of drumming and the drumming world. Though their responses, at times, appear arrogant and elitist, I have come to believe they are all just passionate about drums, drumming, the art of drumming, the science of drumming and the culture of drumming. Few can stand up to these 3 in any argument or debate. Agree or disagree with their posts and their delivery, I still cannot wait to see what they will post next.
Mattsmith for showing us all that setting goals, being persistent, not being intimidated and wood shedding can get you anything you want in life no matter what age you are.
There are more but.....

Yep

Honestly, and I've said this on many other forums... I really don't like these threads. But the reason I'm replying is so it's understood that I like a lot of people here. I don't think it's healthy to broadcast who you like, because when you leave people out, you essentially also list the ones you don't.

Sure, there's people who top your list... but those people generally already know it and you probably carry on convos and a friendship elsewhere either virtually or otherwise.

My favorite members are the "YOUNG GUNS". These are the young guys that make intelligent posts about music, drumming and life in general and don't use their youthful age as an excuse to act stupid:

Britt
Karl
MattSmith
MFB
(some others I'm forgetting?)

My second group of faves are the great players that I learn a lot from and who freely share technique and tips:

JazzGregg
Yamahadrummer
Jazzsnob
TheDuke
DerrickPope (but I forget his user ID, DJP?)
(some others I'm forgetting)

The final group I like is the "Old Guard". These are the old guys that have been out of drumming and have come back in after a long layoff, and really let us know how it is now compared to how it used to be (the good and the bad!) There are too many to name in this category, but they are all great because of the awesome level of diversity they bring.

And as much as I appear to come across as having disdain for these guys, I truly enjoy the youthful reckless types that come in here and bring the "crazy drummer" persona to the board. Although I never was nor will ever be like them, I appreciate their enthusiasm and over-the-top contributions to the board.

Of all these, my two favorite would have to JazzGregg. JazzGregg holds nothing back, and is a wealth of knowledge...so what if he hurts some feelings along the way? MattSmith is my runner-up, in that he is quite possibly the most intelligent writer on this board (and only a teenager still) AND he can back it up with his playing.

Cheers to everyone!

God bless Karl for the following reasons:

1. He is truly an inspired drummer
2. He love sthis place and all of us
3. He loves Tama Drums (like me)
4. Without him, i would not be on this list (bringing up the rear).

so my vote is Karl. As for MFB and Stu -- well, they are okay. I guess with 4000 posts, you are bound to make a few friends ;)

Aahznight and Duke stand out for me, but also
Karl,
Gregg (disagreements aside, he knows every drummer apparently and has listened to every album so I can't help learning a lot from him)
Jazzsnob
Finn (with whom I have also had some good arguments)
Jeff (who likes to discuss free strokes as much as I do), and
The Mods, who make this place feel like home. Great, great job, guys!

But I really like everyone who has something interesting to say or who is not afraid to ask questions and share information. DPS

DrPowerStroke is one of my favourites because he has a cool title. Senior Consultant. Nice. But why the Mods? What's wrong with rockers! only kiddin.

And Karl, cos he's from Germany and they have cool accents. And he has a Tama, what a beautiful kit.

Well...this famous topic: Love.
Man, I would never forget about drumming...I have to say that it is so damn hard with the girls...and this love. No no, not sex, I mean love. But guess you already knew what I`m talking about.
Always when I find a girl interessting or she likes me...we stay in that situation...because I live for the other thing in life: Music. Not that I don`t fall in love with a gal but it is strange...you know? And in addition to that, a few of those girl-related things frustrated me.

Only god knows whats next. But one thing I also know: Drumming is the thing in life.

Thought I would tell you...*peace*

Well I've not come across anyone I disliked, so I guess I like everyone. I do my best to be okay with people, but sometimes I have no time for different things I feel cheapen art. The results of this could be a single foolish post on a thread from people selling the art of drumming in a manner some sell boxercise as if it is an effective and real martial art. In future I'll just ignore such threads.

People who have stood out have been DogBreath's brother. I found myself emotionally involved in his plight. Another is young Karl, who I saw get into a bit of strife but come through it with dignity and poise. Others include those who got behind my return to "the business".

I think overall this is a very positive place with people who like to help and simply love drumming. My only issue with forums in general is that I feel some people post uninformed responses too willingly. But this can be attributed to over enthusiasm. It is then up to the reader to decide. So ultimately no harm is done.

This is certainly the only forum I've seen that I am willing to spend time at.

As a practically non-poster, but avid reader, this thread seems an appropriate place to thank everyone for making this such a helpful, informative, and entertaining site.

Difficult to pick only a handful as there are so many - guess drummers are just naturally great people! - and many have already been mentioned, but would add my mention to:

Bernhard, just for being Bernhard; NJ for the helpful advice (particularly for a relative beginner like myself); DB for the dry humour; Mediocrefunkybeats; Fourstringdrums; DJP for the vids (always entertaining).. Oh and so many more.

Special mention though to some of the younger members, particularly DrummerKarl, Matt Smith, and Jazzsnob (some very useful technique tips - thanks). After a couple of hours on YouTube, MySpace, FB etc. and feeling like I want to weep for the future of mankind, coming here and reading the knowledgeable, intelligent, and articulate arguments of these young men really restores my faith in the younger generation.

Oh, and though I'm not really into the whole WFD thing Tim Waterson seems like a great and helpful guy, even if he does need to sort out that STICKY caps LOCK problem :-)

and definately a big one to theduke86. this guy pulled me out of my practise rut, got me going properly and gave me a more serious outlook on drumming and practise.

I have often wondered about Stu Strib over the past year. When I was spending a lot of time on this forum in early-mid 2006, he was the most present member and a good guy. Anyone know of his whereabouts? Is he still in the UK? Did he go back to Texas?
It seemed strange that he would one day just disappear from everyone's radar after averaging something like 20 posts a day.

Yes, I often think the same.
In general there were members I got to know...and they disappeared one day.
Maybe contact Stu? I thought about that...

Another great guy who is missing in my opinion.

Stu (for no reason) reminds me of steve smith a bit. maybe its his avatar, and the 's' in their names (Steve Smith and Stu Strib) that reminded me of him.

Stu contacted me a bit ago, but nothing much was said about the forum. It was more of just a friendly "hello." Although, Stu and I didn't talk about the forum much either. Just the usual rah rah. He is still lurking around though.

I know that he has other things that he is focusing on besides the forum. The forum was taking up alot of his time and has changed a bit. Maybe he simply felt that he wasn't getting the attention that he used to get. There are other older members who felt that they weren't getting thier due attention, so they caused a little cry baby stink....... remember? I don't think I need to mention names.

But, who really knows. I don't ask, and I don't really care.

I don't really think we need/want to bring up old issues like that, especially not 2 years later. One more for the fact that most of those people involved aren't here to defend themselves and another for the fact that you may have your facts wrong for why some, if not most of those people, myself included, left.

I hope you weren't referring to me. I might just be having a self-conscious moment here.

No, don't worry. He was referring to something that happened a few years ago.
