Is that a Zildjian snare? I didn't realise they made anything but sticks, cymbals, and accessories.
Whats it like? (sound-wise)

it's got an N&C strainer on it which makes me think 2 things:
1. zildjian didn't MAKE this snare, but gave the shell or even just raw metal to N&C and they made the snare for zildjian.
2. it's gotta be expensive ;)

am i right?

Some time ago, Zildjian and Noble & Cooley teamed up and built 500 limited edition snare drums. The shell is made of the Zildjian cymbal allow. These drums supposedly sounded great but were extremely expensive.

How much does it weigh? About 20lbs?

A normal stroke is amplified with this drum, and its soo sensitive! also rim-shots are absolutely ear-shattering!

It weighs 14lbs

Im really stuck as to whether i should keep this drum or not...

There are a few snares noble and cooley have made with other companies (if my memory serves me right)

$400 doesn't sound right, even at a drum show!

I thought those things were going for something exorbitant, like 1500 new. If you don't want it, let me know, I'll take it off your hands!!

You have some nerve telling me that i don't work, i work 5 shifts a week from 12:30pm-3-30pm and again at 7pm until 1-2pm in a mexican restaurant.

I also don't drink, i don't drive or even have a provisional liscence to start driving, i don't smoke cigarrettes and i don't spend money on wasteful little things, It all adds up and the amount you spend on things like that are incredibly expensive

You must realise i also gave up a yamaha dtxtreme kit for this snare drum. I didn't even plan on buying this drum, someone offered me a part exchange and i accepted.

I am most proud of this drum because i earned it, and somone telling me i don't deserve it because of my age, truthfully, needs to get their facts right.

My drum instructor weighed it at 25 pounds.

Weird, it must be my scales then...

I weighed it by subtracting my weight from the weight of me holding the drum, so i could be off a little...

EDIT: recently, went through the whole of the drum tuning bible with this drum and it sounds magnificent now! if i decide to give up this snare it'l be difficult

I'l try to get a recording sometime soon with my yamaha kit :)

Its all good. I have a strange sense of humor and sarcasm. Again, I never mean to offend anyone.
Thanks for understanding.

p.s. i was just at my local sam ash and they had that same snare. Sounds amazing. Have fun.

calm down bro, he said he was just kidding.

and alchohol and what not is not wasteful. It's paying money to have fun. That doesn't seem wasteful to me. I find it insulting that you think I waste my money on ciggarettes because I don't have a 1500 snare drum.

Wow..i dont even know if i would actually play that snare if i had it though...since it is so rare i would keep that baby as a collectors...lol.....and at that price..seems a lot to just put stick marks on it..lol.....but congrats to you though...

Sorry, I didn't imply it like that.

This is one of my most prized aquisitions and for someone to think i didn't earn it, can tick me off a bit.

I was using the fact that i dont drink or smoke as an example as to how money-conscious i am, and to justify how i have aquired such a pricey and collectable drum.

Smoking and drinking isn't for everyone. I may think you waste money on cigarrettes, but i don't think its because you dont own a $1500 snare drum :)

Also, i didn't pick up on the sarcasm...

Sorry,

"Zildjian Noble & Cooley 380th Anniversary 4.75" X 14" Snare Drum, the shell is cast from the Zildjian cymbal alloy and weighs in at a healthy 14 lbs, the snare was originally designed by renowned drum innovator, Bob Gatzen, as you can see, the shell is grooved or ribbed (for her pleasure) -not unlike a cymbal-but deeper, it's outfitted with 8 Unique Lugs with nodal point mounting that are offset (4 up and 4 down), this promotes shell resonance (N&C did their homework), genius Solid Brass off-axis N&C Throwoff--it's absolutely SILENT when the snares are activated and de-activated, all the hardware is Black Anodized (like a Ludwig Black Beauty), 2.3 Hoops allow the shell to breathe, Original Zildjian 380th Anniversary Heads and Original Wires (a few test marks on the top head,) Brand New."

quoted off the ebay link i just put up

This past week end, when I was doing live sound one of the bands drummer had that snare. Sounded great. The tuning he had was medium tension certainly not cranked. FAT and Punchy. No eq needed when mic'd with audix i5.

Kinda reminds me of the Jeff Ocheltree Paiste drums.

He melts down Paiste Alloy to make the drums.
