Um, maybe the search isn't working or something, but why hasn't John Stanier been mentioned here? He only played drums for one of the most influential hard rock bands in the 90's called Helmet? He plays with Mike Patton in Tomahawk and a band called Mark of Cain? He rocks the house in a band called Battles? Um, hello? Can I get a witness? The guy's only been on the drummerworld wishlist like forever, but can't get no respect? I'm not the only one...Stanier seems to be way underrated...
Yeah, I'm a fan of his, I only really know him from Tomahawks two albums but thats enough for me, he's seriously good.

Yeah he is a good drummer, Helmet on the other hand. UGH! I still can't believe how they butchered custard pie on the Enconium album (tribute to Zeppelin) Someone should have kicked the lead singer in the nutz 3 or 4 times for that. The drums were pretty good though.

I'm glad to see some other Stanier fans here. Geesh the man only influenced me to play drums when I was like four. Fond memories of my dad blasting Meantime in the car...... anyway, does anyone know how I may contact him. I've got like a dozen questions. I've searched for a way to contact Tomahawk, but they don't really have a website. Any suggestions?

Yep, a great drummer, don't know about in the States, but Helmet were vastly under-recognised in the UK, awesome group.

Nice call bringing up John Stanier!
He's a champion. I've been a huge fan of Helmet's throughout the 90's and was very happy when he joined Tomahawk.
He's a hard hitting, cool drummer.

Check him out on youtube. He rocks so hard. I really love hes playing style.
The syncopated feeling he has on some of the tomahawk stuff makes me think he's trained in jazz.

this thread needs to be heard!
ive been playing bass for a good 6 years. im into the likes of Rush, Zeppelin, Primus, Yes...ect
i was in fye one time, saw this cd laying there. gave it a preview and BAM. the drums were so powerful that i had to pick up the album.
wouldnt you know it was battles?
anyways ive been into Stanier ever since. Frankly, i had no clue who he was until i came across battles. And to be completely honest, his drumming inspired me to pick up a kit and start drumming myself. And to find out that he has no recognition on drummerworld has me baffled.
lets get John Stanier on here!
i saw battles play the other day, much better live than on record, if you get the chance go....really nice to see a band where the drummer is the leader....and of course the music is great. go see 'em
