Allright. im quite the metallica fan. i like almost all of their songs. i HATE St. anger. But MAN the snare drum he uses in the song sounds mean. Is it the bell brass or the diamond plate?

Speaking of metallica and lars... my God mother once bought a doughnut with him! long story... in the early 90s (i think) they did 2 shows in michagan and she got back stage passes and the band liked her so much they hung out together for a week or so. they went to dunkin doughnuts and lars couldnt pick what kind he wanted... shes like "well your a rock star... buy one of each!" but he ended up not buying any because he couldnt pick what kind.

Side tracked by a funny story... anyway please help me find out what snare he uses to record that song. thank you.

I´ts probobly a acrylic (the bue luddie vistal. as shown in some kind of...) 5,5 without the snares. Annyone correct me if i´m wrong.

I like the sound, the IDEA to create something new. Music should not be conservative.

Totally agree with this.

There's a funny bit in that Metallica film Some Kind of Monster where Lars tries to do this weird off beat on this new song they're trying out. He's obviously trying to do something different and less predictable, but the band hate it and basically tell him to play 'normally'! In the end it was a lousy beat but I totally appreciate what he was trying to do...

Didn't you get the DVD of them recording the album with it? I watched it ages ago and cant remember the snare. i have to say, its my least favorite of Lars' snare sounds. My claim to fame is that my uncle played tennis with his dad! Hope this helps!

I believe that it's the bell brass sig tightened wayyyyy up and tuned ridiculously sharp.

Me too, and if u watch some kind of monster u can clearly see how he hits a blue acrylic snare and u get THAT sound.
Maybe T.underhill have some other inside information?

I've heard Lars doesnt use his sponsorship snares in recording (Tama)
But I have no idea what he does use, just check out the DVD Some Kind Of Monster and you should be able to make it out.

That would be a blue Ludwig Vistalite snare (snares off) .

indeed, wierd that he gets such a messed up sound by putting his snares off:
