The premier series also offers Maple or Birch or X-Gen shells (think thats birch and maple).
They're meant to be great drums with some good features. Worth looking at if you have the money :\

All the tom mounts look retarded... slap a pearl mount on that :)

I have no complaints with my Premier kit. :)

Premier makes some killer drums, but the fact that they're an English company is mainly why you don't see too many kits over here in the U.S. The drums and hardware on the older kits is all metric sizing so fitting drum heads and swapping a cymbal bottom out with another brand makes older kits less than ideal to work with. You have to really be a die hard fan. A buddy drummer cat I know has a newer Premier birch kit and it slams. Great quality and some of the nicest chrome I've ever seen.

Premier Artist Birch are just great drums. The shells are of excellent quality and I would easily put the 'Premier' sound up against my other two favourites, Sonor and Yamaha. Although if you're going all the way, you might want to consider Premier's top end kit. The Artist Birch is their high intermediate kit (although I've seen it used professionally more than once). Great drums.

yea, premiers are so overlooked, my artist birch kit was used and i got it at a guitar center for $700!!!!.
it didnt have a snare but it was the full fusion size kit otherwise. its great, and im only 15 but i do play gigs and it always sounds better than the tamas out ther (in my opinion)

My only concern is about their support in the states. It took me two months to get some replacement lugs. Now that I'm back behind them I must say it was worth the wait for the parts.

Why would you EVER replace the Premier tom mounts for PEARL tom mounts? Man, what's up with that?!?
That's like saying, "I'm going to get a V-8 Ford Mustang and replace the engine with a 3-cylinder."
That's just ridiculous. Stop wasting your money on stuff like that.

the head sizes are americian right? the reason i like pearl mounts better is they are way more ajustable than more. and i set up really weird.

I have Aquarians on my Premier's now, at least the toms. The kick is using a Tama head. I've used Remos on them before too.

Wait, they are MORE adjustable? Are you serious???
Have you ever played another drumset before with Yamaha/Tama-style drum mounts?
You're missing out and making a mistake...

I have to say the Yamaha YESS mounts are far and away superior to any other mounnt on the market. You can postion your toms in a million different positions.

On the Premier website they even mention the drumshells being slightly undersized. I guess the old metric/whateverthehellitwas shell still haunts them. Yeah, standard drumheads will fit.

hi all, first post on here, ive got a new premier artist birch fusion kit. really nice kit, had to stick Evans G2's on the toms because my everplay 1ply split on the floor tom which was a surprise, but now sounds a lot better. so yeah i recommend premier kit and the tom mounts! snare is prob the worst part of the kit.

No need, the shells are undersized by about 2-3mm, this according to Premier is an intentional design so that the bearing edges make more solid contact with the head instead of closer to the collar. Rims are still the same universal size.

Been playing mainly Premier since 1965 - not the same set!
Basically using a custom built kit (many HW changes) since 1986. Best piece of equipment: a Project 1 snare (one of the original prototypes).
Music: mainly fusion.

You mean overpriced with a cult following and not available in my area? :X
J/K.
I'd like a set of resonators (early 90's model) for my collection. Those are a definate milestone in drum history. I like some of the snare drums as well.

I bought a Premier drum, but don't know what type it is. The only thing I know is that it's from the year 1979. The drumpedal is a Premier 252. I am not really known in the Premier material, but is this only the type of the pedal or also a drumtype?

This is the current Premier, although I know they just came out with some updated models.

Back in the 90's, I owned a XPK kit. Great looking, decent sounding drums. I miss the Signia's and Projectors. I had heard they have been bought and sold a few times since and one of our local drumshops dropped them due to slow support. I'd really love to entertain another Premier kit, but have no idea where to look near North Carolina.
Here are some old pics of mine. One is me playing while in the Navy overseas while onboard John F. Kennedy in 1992-1993.

Mike, that Rosewood was un-matched by any other company, IMO. Also, the Sapphire Blue, and Topaz were absolutely VIVID colors I have not seen on any other make.

They were beautiful for sure. Believe it or not, I never really liked the 9" brass snare. They gave me a deal on it with the kit. I bought them at a great drum shop in Virginia Beach called Tidewater Percussion. I think they went under years ago sadly. I looked on Premier's site and saw the NC dealers, many of them don't carry them anymore and I don't know of any who stock them.

Question for you guys,
I've had a Premier Cabria drum set for about 8 years now. I, like many, am trying to find out exactly what set I've got. As far as I've seen, there are no markings whatsoever on the drums to tell anything about them. I bought em, in 2002. 22" kick, 16 & 14" toms. 14.5" snare I believe are the measurements.
Here's a few pics of the drums, and these are far from great photos.

Anybody know how or where I can get info on these? Like, specific info? I'm trying to sell them now, and all the info I can get about em the better.
Preciate it.

FWIW, looking at your pics, I'd suggest the snare is 14", 12" and 13" rack toms and a 16" floor. A very common combination. Other than that, I'm unable to help, sorry.
