Hey everybody.......just a little tip for anyone interested.....I was turned on to using a little mirror in front of my hands when doing practice pad exercices, this is great for comparing the mechanics between the right and left hands.......a bigger mirror is also great for drumset technique.........try it out and let me know what you think!!!!

yeah my teacher started me on this and i immediatly discovered flaws and bad habits i have. everyone should do it
Oh... this is really a great thing to do. Can't imagine not practicing with one. I have a mirror for a door that I can move around so that I can check my feet too.

Hehe, just today I also started using a mirror for pad. After practicing the Free Stroke for the last half year or so and finally getting the hand motion (that's when a mirror is not of so much use; you have to watch the hands directly), the mirror is great for watching the consistent stick motion, also Moeller whip...
Very useful tool...

yep sure is... use a full body mirror and watch your feet and hands at the same time... also if you can video record yourself that would help for seeing if you have proper technique or are straining for your ride or something..

i cant really use a mirror when i play, but i sometimes record my sessions on tape and watch them over for my weaknesses.

A mirror is a great practice tool. A friend of mine told me about this and i thought it was just goofy, but after watching my bass foot from a side view while playing..... well lets just say i my heel up technique needed some work. right now i have about a 5 foot mirror to the the left of my set. im a right handed player.

I think mirrors are really good ideas. If i were to use one though, it would be because i tend to cock my head to one side on accident while im drumming. Someone took a picture and i realized how stupid it looked haha. So i think its a good idea to fix it.

Mirrors are essential. I need to buy another one, my last one broke during a storm a few months ago. They're so useful for practice it's not even funny, you can't honestly see what you're doing from the POV of where your eyes happen to be stuck.

Unfortunately I'm in the position where I have exceptionally high ceilings (Damn you, Victorian architects!) and no desire to drill into the wall. I have used a mirror before, and it was a very handy tool, especially regarding hand technique. You could quite easily spot the mistakes in the mirror, and how stupid you looked whenever you did anything.

What do you want mirrors on your ceiling for? You dirty, dirty man....

Oh well... you know Finn... I am eighteen after all. And it sounds like you have experience ;-)
No, I just realised I didn't make myself clear. High ceilings means a very high picture rail and unfortunately there's no good chord anywhere around me and no means to actually get some. I'm thoroughly skint right now. I think the mugging tramps suggestion may actually come to fruition. My kit's also in a pretty inaccessible place, so to actually put hang a mirror on the rail up nine + feet in the air, is frankly, a pain.

Maybe you could get a smaller mirror just for use when you work on the pad? It really is invaluable in that regard.

I started using a mirror years ago, it helped me correct many posture and grip problems.
As for a mirror on the cieling, man, I nearly threw my back out trying to look in the thing, and then I wasn't that pleased with what I saw.

My Roland is set up right in front of my wall to wall closet mirror and its really helped...
I have a tendency to tighten up in the neck and shoulder area when I'm struggling with a new independence exercise...
Its also quite a sight on the weekend, first thing in the morning seeing me looking like a hung-over zombie practicing with a cup of coffee....

i set up individual little cameras. one for my footwork, and 1 for my upper body. you can angle them different each time, and if playing to a metronome can play the same thing over and over and get perfect.
i find a mirror a lil limiting.. but the whole idea is great.

Yeah, a mirror is of course a great tool for a drummer. You`ll see whow you execute it and what you do wrong...very good tool, especially when learing technical things and playing on the snare drum.
I used to play alot with mirror at music school, it was like a teacher who tells you what you do wrong, great thing!

A mirror can help you see how you sit and hold the sticks
