Unusual cymbal set-ups

I wanted to see some unusual cymbal set-ups. Either the way all your cymbals are set up around your set or maybe just one or two cymbals.

I have a 14inch B8 Pro thin underneath a B8 PRo 10 inch spash - both hanging on a stand. Works ok for me and was done like this because I didn't have another cymbal stand.

My set is a Sonor Force 3001
My cymbals are all B8 Pro

Hey Sole, great pictures, and you solved a problem for me. I havent been happy with the way I had my wuhan splash and china, so now I have them one over the other just like you have the two stacked in the picture, with the splash on top of course. I thought I was looking at my set for a moment. I have a Taye set of Blue Crush and the color is very similar to yours. Again thx for posting your pics. You never know when you may help someone.

ive had alot of weird set ups. but now i found a normal one that works so im keeping it.

Thanks for the comments guys... I hope others who read this will also post their pics too - I'd love to see some different set ups for both curiosity and future ideas.

Tony royster in his earlier days had a REALLY wierd cymbal set-up.

As for me, sometimes I'll throw a mini-china on top of a crash.

I'm also planning on adding to the two splashes you can barely see on the edges ... My plan is to get two more splashes and have a mini hi hat on each side ...

I like unusual cymbal setups, not that I have one, It just look exotic to me and I like to watch such a things :)

I like the inverted cymbal boom stand set up -I mount my 8" HH splash the same way on my Gibraltar rack. Gotta check the wing nut periodically, or the damn thing will eventually fall off, and then, Woops! ("Where the *&%$#$@ is that washer and wing nut??") When I just use normal cymbal stands, i like to mount the 8" upside down on top of my 16" AA medium/thin crash. (a space saving necessity, but it actually works very well)

Never thought of having the boom stand arm upside down...Im guna try that! An yeah,thnk uve solved my problem with my wuhan china and splash too :P

has anyone out there seen resonance bells????weird little yokes...retail at €100 a piece here.....would love to get me a complete set of those....set em up in a kind of ascending order, of note value!!

i love samll kits, but i want loads of cymbals!!haha!

also talking about weird set ups...in the early RHCP days chad smith had his ride an cymbals all set up so they were hanging upside down from his stands....very odd...ill try an get a picture...(as in like thumper was describing)

stack whore?snigger...yeah i do that too...but considering i only have...when counted....let me see....4 cymbals(my 2 i-hats,my crash and ride)....the possibilities for stacking really arent endless....

Someone found a ZBT 8" Splash and gave it to me (they're not a drummer, just found it and thought of me) that I had mounted with a second clamp on the rod over my hi-hats upside down for about a day. I put it upside down because I didn't really like the quality of its splash sound, but reversed it gave a pretty cool chime sound. Mounting it on the rod was just convenient (not only in equipment but playability wise). But then I found a friend who doesn't mind ZBTs and decided losing the chime sound was worth $20.

I do a hat in the center (and an X-hat on the right) and a ride on both sides.
Don't know if that's unusual or not, but I likes it

I'm just weird with my china placement now. It's oddly on top of my ride. I don't use too many cymbals, though. The real weird thing is they're all different brands

How about Ndugu Chancler's cymbal placement? I saw him give a clinic and he explained why he's got them there. They're high and steep, but they're so close, you don't have to hold your arm out against gravity at all. The top half of your arm hangs naturally off your shoulder and the lower half goes directly back up. Everything stays close to the body and there's not strain on your shoulders, back, neck or arms. Sit in your playing position, take a stick in your right hand, and place your hand at about eye level at two o'clock (about 45 degrees to the right of straight ahead) about eight inches away from your head. The tip of your stick is where the sweet spot on the ride is. Comfy, eh?

I saw him give a similar clinic as well a few weeks ago, and then watched him perform. He really does have a great point about the cymbal setup like that, and watching him play- he had one of the fastest right hands I've ever seen on his ride cymbal!!! I kinda like playing like that now, but I always worry it will keyhole my cymbals faster...
