Premier signia !!! it was the top of the range of premier in the 1990 (if my memory is good), just like MMX is for pearl, and Hilites was for Sonor.

The Signia by a large margin is the better set , now if it was a higher end Sonor kit, then my answer may be different. I've owned 2 Sonor sets and I now am playing a Premier Genista which is the Birch version of the signia. get the Signia...my 2 cents

The Signias are a high end premium kit, that said, let those drums sing with single ply heads, take your pick Remo Ambassadors, Evans G1, Aquarian Classics, no need to double ply those drums for a great maple sound.

I am glad you chose the Premier. Those kits were really lovely. It's a top of the range professional level drumset. What more could you need? I agree with the single ply recomendation. I'd put Remo coated ambassadors on the batter and clears on the resonant side.
The kick would work well with either a fibreskin, pinstripe or powerstroke head and ambassador resonant head.

Would Coated Ambassadors be better than... Evans G1's? or Aqurian single ply heads?.. and is coated the way??

I play on Ambassador and G1 and I prefer the Ambassador's ...
Why?
I don't know ... there is a difference in the attack ... the type of sound they make.
It's simply two diffenrents feeling ...
You should try the too and choose the one you prefer ...
There are no best heads ... just best heads for YOU.

oh yeah, its most probably going to ring with 1 ply heads, but in a good way. Well, it will probably go "boing" depending on how you tune it.

Premier is the better company. not to mention the model that you speak of is top of the line.
Dont get me wrong, 3005s are sweet drums.

You really need to decide this for yourself. I advise you buy them and try them.
